Really sad news.. I remember seeing him playing really well against us, then when he played for us it didn't happen. I actually thought he looked lazy when he played for us away at West Ham. Then when his illness came to light it made sense. He knew he had a heart condition and he still played; I think he deserves a lot of respect for that. I lost a very good friend - she was 21 and just collapsed with heart failure. If there isn't a specific charity that we can make donations to for Mitchell then i'd suggest making a donation to cry www.c-r-y.org.uk/

Couldn't believe it when someone told me at the match toady. So sad. Valiant effort from the fans today to manage some sort of tribute, slightly spoiled by conditions.

I presume we'll hold a minutes silence at the next home game? Yes, says so on the club's website.

Obviously I didn't know him as the players do. I followed his career post united on the twitter. It is so sad.

Only found about this late on today. Utterly shocked and devastated for his young family. As countless others have said, a tragic loss and far, far too young.
RIP Mitchell Cole.

RIP And I am sure Stevenage fans would agree too They certainly are. I was down in Herts yesterday and BBC 3 Counties were talking of little else. He scored the first goal of their comeback in the Trophy final at Wembley. The Stevenage commentator said it was lucky they had no game today as they were all so stunned. Apparently he went to every game at Lamex after retiring and was doing a lot of promotion for a charity to do with his condition. RIP and thoughts of all true football fans to his family and friends.

This will sound really stupid, but how about this.
A pre-season match with Stevenage every year (Mitchell Cole Cup) with all proceeds going to a charity of his family's choice?

Don't think that will happen nor should it really. He was much more associated with Stevenage than he was us, so I think they will probably be the ones to do something. Indeed, according to their board he was a regular at all their games since he retired.

Indeed, according to their board he was a regular at all their games since he retired. Agree. A one off game would be appropriate methinks. If Stevenage want to make a thing of it every year they would be far more entitled to do so. Cole hardly played many games for us even if it was while he was with OUFC that his career was cut short. He will always be, i would imagine a Stevenage, rather than OUFC icon no matter how tragic his passing and for that reason if there is going to be an annual game in his memory or continuing gestures its for Stevenage to do it rather than us.

I cant really add much to the 'RIP's' that have been posted apart from to say that both of my sons are older than Mitchell Cole, and the idea of losing either of them is unspeakable. I sincerely hope that the sentiments of those who have been so demonstratively expressed filter through to those who loved him.
