Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere so thought we should have a thread for the late, great Jack Casley who sadly died aged 88 today. 42 years service to the club as player then scout & chief scout. Helped discover John Aldridge no less. www.oxfordmail.co.uk/sport/oxfordunited/11250900.Oxford_United_stalwart_Jack_Casley_dies_at_88/RIP Jack. A true gent and great bloke. Will be sadly missed by all at Oxford. # Mods, feel free to move to another section - Just thought it would get viewed more in the matches section

Rip to Jack and thoughts go out to his family. There was talk on Facebook about naming the 12th man bar after him, think that would be a fitting long lasting gesture.

RIP.
The club are quite good at acknowledging those who have given great service so I'm sure something will be done to recognise his significant contribution.

RIP A long standing servant of Oxford United. What a shame that the picture in the mail has him standing next to a man who did not really give a shit about Oxford United.

June 05 (Herald Express (Torquay UK)) -- JACK CASLEY (below) played only once for Torquay United, but it was certainly a game to remember. It was April 1948, and a run of eight successive defeats had seen United plummet towards the bottom of the old Third Division South. Promotion-chasing Walsall were due at Plainmoor two games from the end of the season and both United's goalkeepers, Phil Joslin and Gerry Matier, were injured. Unable to sign an emergency replacement, manager John McNeil had no alternative but to turn to an outfield player, Casley, to play in goal. Against all the odds, United won 3-2 (Charlie Hill, Dave Mercer Jr, Jack Conley), and Torquay-born Casley, who played better than anyone had expected, was the hero of the hour. That result, which was followed by two more defeats, enabled United to finish one point off the bottom of the table and avoid having to seek re-election. Among the clubs that finished below them were Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion. How times change! Although he remained at Plainmoor for another season, Casley never played for the first team again and, in 1949, he became the first professional to sign for Headington United. Amazingly, he also made his debut for Headington in goal, before he was restored to the attack and scored a hat-trick in his third appearance for the club that became Oxford United in 1960. He played at the old Manor Ground for three seasons, but ended up serving the U's for 42 years, mainly as their chief scout, and also Oxford City. It was Casley who was responsible for Oxford signing future Liverpool and Wales striker John Aldridge in 1984. Jack died last week at the age of 88, and many tributes have been paid to him in the Oxford area.

And there was me thinking that Aldridge played for the Republic of Ireland.
