Date: 28/09/10
Venue: Whaddon Road
Attendance: 4349
Result: Drew 1-1
We made the short trip to Cheltenham early in the season still unbeaten away from home and sat in mid-table, while Cheltenham were in a similar position in a slightly lower position, with both sides seeing a win over their neighbours as a chance to kickstart their season and push up towards the playoff positions. Cheltenham started the match the brighter of the two sides and were clearly fired up and dominated the first half against a weakened Oxford side without Jake Wright (injured) or James Constable (suspended), while Mark Creighton limped off injured early in this match. Cheltenham created numerous chances in the early stages of the match before they eventually scored on the half hour mark with a looping header which caught Clarke in no-man's land. Having gone in at the break lucky to be just the one goal behind, Oxford then went on to dominate the second half themselves, but not before Leigh Franks came close to scoring an embarrassing own goal. The equaliser came after an hour, when Jack Midson tapped in a rebound after the Cheltenham goalkeeper spilled a Tom Craddock shot. Cheltenham came close to scoring again soon after but spent the remainder of the match defending a spell of heavy Oxford pressure.
Also perhaps of interest (though I doubt it somehow) was THIS SHORT VIDEO of a friendly in 2008. Not particularly inspiring, but the match will always be remembered for the contribution of the now-legendary Diogo Andrade.
