Bit of a fire sale going on down there. They've now sold over £100 million of players in a short time. must be one of the bookies favourites to return to the championship. slip sliding away

Was just gonna post something similar!...unbelievable really.
Lallana, Shaw, Lovren, Chambers, Lambert...and now Rodriguez and Schneiderlin. Has Koeman p*ssed every one off, or are the big boys wanting to invest in the next Gareth Bale.
Southampton produce and buy very well indeed. Hope they stay up personally as alot of their talent is English.

They're becoming something of a feeder club to Liverpool. I've heard that Liverpool have bid £400000 for Elsie the tea lady from Southampton...despite no interest from other clubs

With some parachute payments, Southampton could have a mighty war chest for the 2015-16 season. They've lost too many good players, and a top manager too, for them to stay up, I feel.
That said, £25m for Adam Lallana? That's what's wrong with the PL. Great business for Southampton for a good but not great player. If English players could eventually start being sold for a fee more reflective of their ability, then expectations of the national team would be more fair.

Ian Bell performed so well at Southampton yesterday that Liverpool are believed to be preparing a bid for him.

Saints are victim of their own success. It may have been different if Pochettino had stayed. The players wanted to leave.

Southampton have a large catchment area to attract young would be footballers so I imagine the next lot of young stars are not be far away from breaking into the 1st team.... Walcott, Oxlade and Gareth Bale were hardly missed in the Saints rise back to the big time......

I was reading a while ago about Steve Bruce saying you pay more for english players because they are already used to the league, culture and what is expected of them.

Considering the turmoil they have been through in the last 10 years, nearly going bust, went down to Div 1 I am not surprised they have cashed in on their players. With the Premiership money and now the transfer fees, they should be able to consolidate for many years. Come on, they are never going to be a top 4 side, so as long as they stay mid table they will be fine.

Tottenham closing in on schneiderling and Rodriguez too..
They've got a few decent youngsters coming through but they really need to make the step up this year else they're going to really struggle!
It's a shame really because I thought they were brilliant to watch last year
I just hope poch can transfer their pressing pass and move style into the Tottenham side!

Will they buy Rodriguez when he had that nasty injury? They were talking about it on the radio last night saying it doesn't make sense to sign him until he is back and playing.

Business-wise, they've done brilliantly. ~£92 million in the coffers for five players who cost them a total of about £10m (Lovren was about £8.5m a year ago, Lambert a little over a million in 09/10).
Football-wise, they better hope that the next generation of youngsters are just as talented, and that Koeman knows what he's doing - with his signings from the Dutch league, and just in terms of management in general - because otherwise they're going to be headed for relegation, which over a few years would basically wipe out all that profit. I think they probably have just about enough left to survive if Koeman is competent.

Ward-Prowse, Gaston Ramirez and Jack Cork! Oh - and Artur Boruc. Too many good players off at once! My Saints supporting pal is inconsolable.

Well, they've said they're not going to sell Schneiderlin & Rodriguez (although who knows if they're lying about that as well).
Then they've got Clyne, Steven Davis, Wanyama and Fonte. All of whom can play.
Combine with these two from Dutch football - Pelle and Tadic - that they spent £20m on, and presumably a few more younger players and a couple more signings and there should be enough to keep them ahead of three other teams.
They won't be competing for the Top 10 again though, which is sad.

Signed Bertrand today too on loan with a view to a permanent deal - not worth the 10m they're talking about but the kids got plenty of ability and think he'll do well there
