In my opinion, England's Wilder. Can do good things, wonderful things, but is a bit naïve. As we were in the latter stages of his reign, he wasn't the ideal man for the job, and neither is Mr Hodgson. But, can England attract anything better than Hodgson? Wilder left of his own accord, and the jury is still out on Waddock. Who could succeed Mr Hodgson if he were to walk out of the large glass door at the front of St George's Park with a cardboard box full of photos of his family?

Disagree massively. Jeep him. He's got England playing decent stuff. Let the dinosaurs retire ( Gerrard, Lampard ) and let him build with the younger lads. We've a good bunch coming through.
A change now will be the worst think we could do.
P.S. anyone know a decent, young centre half!

Au contraire. I hope Hodgson gets the chance to go after the next Euro thingy, he's changed the way England play for the better.

Hodgson should stay. He had the courage to use the youngsters rather than relying on all the same old warhorses - and I'd actually like him to now go further in the same vein.

You a tabloid reader, Bazzer? You post some seriously reactionary stuff on here. Who would you replace him with since sacking the manager is your option? As Junior said, the youngsters are coming through now and some of them look half decent. I think it's been a World Cup too early to find players for every position. I think the midfield looks good and we have a few nifty attacking options, but aside from Cahill, England's defence is not good enough. Jagielka is OK but lacks Champions League experience and that showed in how he defended against the top players. The limitations of Johnson and Baines have been well talked about - we all know what they are. Agree with Junior. Let the oldies retire and go again for the Euros in two years with Hodgson at the helm.

I think people have misinterpreted my first post. Hodgson is probably the best man for the job, but not the ideal man for the job.

Agree with the general sentiment - expecting Hodgson to work wonders with a green attack (at least at the very top level) and a sub-par defense (not his fault - there was noone better to pick) was a step too far. I still would have liked to have seen a genuine holding midfielder in the squad, but that's a minor quibble because Carrick or Barry wouldn't have turned us into World beaters.
We've got a really easy qualifying group for the Euros....let's field a side of exclusively under-30s and use that to build for 2016 and 2018. And only give Hodgson the hook if we're showing signs of not finishing ahead of Estonia, Slovenia and Lithuania.....

I agree uni send the oldies out to pasture bring on th youngsters but look at other clubs rather than the usual 4/5. I am sure there is a better r/b other than Johnson to vie with Jones for the spot, A regard Hodgson we all sound off but I would like to think he will look at other teams and there English players.

Gerrard got a lot of praise playing in that position for Liverpool this season but to be honest I don't think he was all that great, Suarez & Sturridge performing like they did won matches & in turn made Stevie look better. Henderson, who I'm a big fan of and would argue is England's most complete midfielder, again is not a genuine defensive mid, and didn't play there at all for Liverpool. We were definitely lacking someone sweeping up in front of the defence, like Scotty Parker did at the last Euros.

I'm genuinely trying to think of the last World Cup finalist that didn't have a World Class DM. Busquets, Gattuso, Dunga, Makelele, Deschamps, de Jong. None of them World-beating talents but so important to their teams in building a platform in the game and driving them through the tournament. I know they're not truly great players, but I think we would have been better off with Barry or Carrick sitting in front of the back four (especially given how shaky they were) rather than Gerrard. And it ought to be a priority for Roy to find that guy for the future in the next couple of years.

With Hodgson and the players we have to ensure that we only change because there is someone better. There is a big generation gap between the Gerrards at one end and the youngsters at the other. What players are available aged between 25-30 to give some stability?
Lampard will retire, Gerrard might stay a year or two - but who replaces him? Wilshire?
Jakielka was found wanting and Glen Johnson hasn't stepped up but who's better right now?
As for Hodgson, he's as good as any English manager and which top international coaches would we attract?

Take away the baldy bollocks about Carrick and you have yourself a very good player. Premiership and champions league stats back this up.
English fans and press dismiss this type of player as unimportant as he's not the all action premiership player they crave and are used to.
Carrick would be your 7/10 every game with the odd 9.
Missed a trick by not taking him let alone, not playing him.

We've a Euro 2016 qualifying group with the Swiss, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania and San Marino - and two (maybe even three) qualify. If that's not a good time to start picking squads with the future in mind.....well, then there's never going to be.

for as long as the clubs are allowed to dictate who can or cannot play or for how long things will never improve....in the game today when it comes to club v country there will only ever be one outcome

The thing for me inthese two gaames has been the sense thatif it were a club side just starting the season it would not be too long before they were winning games against decent sides, but instead weve had two close games and its virtually all over.
Its not as if we were crap was it?
Howeveer lets not despair quite yet, Italy put a few past CR tomorrow and we could still have chance

Age should never be a barrier either way, but we need to bring players in that are better not just younger. You could argue that with left back we had Cole being too old and Shaw untested, so Baines got the gig. If players are of equal standing then go with youth but there is a lack of competition for defence and centre mid.

Are you serious ? Do you honestly believe that Jones, Smalling and Caulker are the answer to England's defensive frailties. Gerrard will retire from international football, as will Lampard, Roy needs to look hard and be strong and get rid of Rooney & Wellbeck, both are competing against better players for there favoured position. Glenn Johnson is another that should not play again for the National team, we have exciting players just need to put them together

Showed his boring negative mindset IMO. 2-1 down against Italy brings on 3 midfield players,in 3 like for like substitutions, leaving an out and out striker on the bench, result we lose. 1-0 down against Uruguay, brings on 2 midfields players in like for like substitutions, leaves Henderson on the pitch as a 2nd defensive midielder? at 2-1 with 3 minutes to go he brings on an out and out striker! result we lose. Hodgson "we wil use all our weapons" yep,for 3 whole minutes. Sterling BY FAR our best player against Italy, shunted out to the wing to accomadate Rooney, who despite scoring, was awful, how apart from media pressure can Hodgson justify that decision? Yes go for youth, but don't discard people because of there age,Ashley Cole not better defensively than Baines? in your dreams and he's coming up 30,so to old for the next WC.

It isn't as if there is a host of candidates out there who are capable of turning a mediocre set of players into world beaters, which is what we have asked every England manager to do. England players are just good enough, and I worry that some of the youngsters in the team are starting to believe their own publicity. Wilshire for example, has been distinctly unimpressive in an England shirt. As long as the Premier League is going to continue to sanction the unrestricted import of foreign players into the game, then opportunities for home grown players will diminish.

Doesn't matter who is manager for me. Right now we don't have a squad of players good enough to challenge in any major competition. We might in the future, but not right now.
