Does anyone have friends or family going to watch the World cup? Not sure how safe it is, there were shootings yesterday. Also what are the chances of Qatar loosing the 2022 games with the Bribery disclosures? If found guilty and they loose the rights, what would you think of Australia holding them if they won a re- vote? Hope it's not too late in the day for all these questions

Australia would be interesting and presumably heat would be no problem.
Games would be at odd times for us, no?

There's always trouble away from the touristy areas. Remember South Africa and the threat from a vuvuzela up an alley?

Australia would host a great World cup.
Their fans are the only ones who rival us for turning out and supporting any sporting event that graces their shores. It's a safe and fun place to visit. They've got great stadia, great infrastructure, perfect weather at this time of year (as long as they don't try and play too many games in Darwin).
It makes complete sense.
Hence why FIFA gave the tournament to ****ing Qatar........

Australia would be a great place for a World Cup.
But now I see they have been mentioned about possible wrongdoing concerning a $4m grant.

I know we aren't allowed to bid for 2022 but why can we not have the tournament?
To host a World Cup you need
12 stadia over 40,000 capacity: Wembley, Twickenham, Old Trafford, Emirates Stadium, Olympic Stadium, St James' Park, Stadium of Light, Etihad Stadium, Villa Park, Anfield, Stamford Bridge, Goodison Park.
Good transport between cities: London has one of the best transport links in the world, and is easily connected to Birmingham, Manchester, the North East, and Liverpool.
32 good standard training grounds: 92 Football League teams all train somewhere, so any pick between those, St George's Park, that place in Watford or any other country house or private school would be acceptable.
England could put it on next week. Brazil couldn't and they're supposed to. Why can it not happen?

England could put it on next week. Brazil couldn't and they're supposed to. Why can it not happen? Because since 1958, they've not wanted to have consecutive World Cups on the same continent. It is one of the world's two biggest sporting events, so only fair that it gets shared around. Under FIFA's current rule book (which of course, they'll probably happily ignore for a big enough envelope of cash) "any country may bid for a World Cup, provided that their continental confederation has not hosted either of the past two World Cups." Unless they're going to have a re-vote on 2018 as well, we're going to have to wait until 2030 at the earliest.
