New thread for this. Hope the ladies get even a point..
Please keep to the subject:
Oxford United Women are a big part of the Oxford United family, we are getting behind them for the local derby game against Reading tomorrow.
Its been a tough start for our Womens team in Womens Super League 2, but anyone who has seen us play, will know the results havent told the full story. The performances have been of a high, entertaining standard, and with a little bit more luck, we would have more points by now.
With our support, the first win wont be far off. So if you can make it tomorrow, your support will be appreciated. Some of the Yellow Army will be there to wave the big flags, and with a sunny day forecast, it will be a good day out for all the family.
The game is being played at Abingdon United, on Northcourt Road. The Boundary House pub is just over the road, and is a family pub. So if you fancy a drink or some lunch before the game, thats where some Oxford fans will be heading from midday, before heading to the ground around 1.30pm.
Kick off is at 2pm, and its only £5 for adults and £2 for under 16s/over 65s.

Would it be appropriate for the ladies team to get their own section on the forum rather than it being under yellow army?

At least the women have something in common with the men's team in that they are presently, crap! Bottom of the league aren't they?!

To be fair, this season was always going to be about closing the gap. Some of the performances have been decent and they've deserved more from a few of the games but they haven't learned how to grind a result out yet. Tomorrow would be a great time to do that!

Would it be appropriate for the ladies team to get their own section on the forum rather than it being under yellow army? I put it in this section as Oxford fans have said they would like to show support for the women's team today. But I think it would be a good idea to have a section, which covered the women's team, development squad, youth team, and the community side of the club.

The ladies have effectively been parachuted in from the a L2/conference equivalent to a championship equivalent, and as said above at least twice now they have been the better side, but paid the price for their naïvety and been done late on the break. They are definitely improving & learning every game & Les Taylor is working hard with them. They were never going to challenge at the top of the league this year, but I doubt they'll still be at the bottom on the final day of the season.
Today is another tough one though, Reading's striker has just been called up to the England squad (first WSL2 player to get the call) so they'll have their work cut out to keep her quite.

Well, if you went today I think you'd have enjoyed it. Four good goals, a bit of local rivalry/niggle and a last minute equaliser for the home side.
Oxford were poor in the first half by the standards they've set, but after a rocket at half time came out 2nd half blazing & got straight back into the game. Pegged back by a quality Reading finish, but United kept going until the very end & a beautiful swung in cross was headed home in injury time to grab a deserved equaliser for the Yellows.
A thoroughly enjoyable game of football in the sun for a fiver. Hope the Yellow Army guys enjoyed it as much as I did.

I have just got back from an excellent day out.
Headlesspnub, I to enjoyed the game. The Reading player who has just been called up for England, looked a different class, and I was worried we would get well and truly beaten. But despite a poor first half, I thought we thoroughly deserved the draw. We have some good players, and I am happy for the players that they got their first point.
The lads I went with all really enjoyed it, and would go back again. It was nice to see a few familiar faces there.

I watched Fran play a few years back and she very nearly quit football all together so to come back and get an England call up will be a dream for her. She is a great little player who i've seen rip teams apart on her own.
Oxford ladies will struggle this year but will get used to the standard and will learn a lot from playing against some of the top players. This season should be about building for the following year.
In woman's football it is very hard to reach the top unless you have the money to bank roll it. The top players aren't on anything close to what the men get paid. The top players get paid between 40K and 60K a year and that is only one or two in each team. Oxford would do well to have a team able to compete in WSL2.
