From the official site: Supporters to sponsor new arrival at Oxford United The Yellow Army have sponsored new Oxford United favourite David Connolly's home shirt until the end of the season - thanks to the generosity of U's supporters. Oxford United fans, The Yellow Army, made the cash pledge using funds donated by fans throughout the season. It means the striker, who has made an immediate impact at United by scoring on his debut against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, is officially backed by every Oxford fan. The £144 donation to Oxford United will help the club cover the costs of the striker's home kit. The Yellow Army will be proudly named as Connelly's home kit sponsor in the match day programme. Jonathan Beesley, of Abingdon and the Yellow Army said: "This would not have been possible without the generosity of Oxford United supporters who help make our club one I'm proud to be a part of. "It's thanks to every United fan who has made a contribution that this could be done, as shirt sponsorship really does help the club. "The Yellow Army is all about backing the club and improving the atmosphere on match days, so we're delighted the Yellow Army is sponsoring David's shirt - it's a fantastic way to welcome him to the club." "Yellow Army funds can be used to help United in the transfer market, to improve the match day atmosphere by adding more colour to the stadium, or by backing the club in areas like this," added Chris Allen, a United fan from Thame. "David certainly has made an instant impression on Oxford fans and we now hope with the Yellow Army's backing he will score the goals that help fire us to promotion. "It's a great feeling to know that our new striker has got an extra bit of backing from the fans at this crucial stage in the season. "The Yellow Army is behind David and the entire team as we enter a big few months for United." It has not yet been decided what will happen to the shirt at the end of the season. Every United fan is part of the Yellow Army, so if you have any ideas or would like to volunteer to help you're most welcome to get involved. Did the Yellow Army seek and receive authority from the entire Oxford fan base before making this unilateral - and rather extravagant - gesture? This is disgraceful! How difficult would it be to follow due process? First, the "Oxford fan base" should have been defined - possibly through modelling consultancy from Templeton College - and contacted (every one of them, mind). In the unlikely event that a majority of those voting thought this was a good idea, Yellow Army could then have written a cheque for £144 to OUFC. This high-handed attitude is typical of this non-representative, unelected bunch. I will now bang on about the sheer injustice of it all for at least a year. Might even found my own forum from which to coordinate my campaign.

£144? It's the thin end of the wedge.

If the Yellow Army get the shirt at the end of the season, signed, I'm sure that more than £144 will be raised by the resulting raffle for it... (well unless Connolly turns out to be as useful as Peter Fear that is)

£144? It's the thin end of the wedge. Glad others have concerns too. £144 is not an insignificant amount. You could heat a small bungalow for a quarter, or buy three pints in the 12th Man Bar. Is this REALLY the best use for the money?

Which player did the Yellow Army fund to bring in this Jan? I'm sure this was one of the things the money was going towards at the beginning of the season.

The club didn't request any financial support and so the balance remains. It's sat at about £17k - which combines the efforts of the 12th Man and the YA.

Trying to ride on the backs of the 12th Man for a little more misguided ego yet again then bb. Tell me, how much of the £17K has Yellow army raised? I think the 12th Man has almost £15K in their pot. No wonder they decided to split.

Wondering why the club hasn't asked for any 12th man funds? Asa out, Connolly in, Henly in? Perhaps we haven't maxed out the budget?

No wonder they decided to split. You are of course absolutely right. Quibbling over who raised the most money is EXACTLY they way fans should be spending their time rather than this pathetic "supporting the team" rubbish others have been doing over the course of the season. And none of your posts make the 12th Man supporters (I'm not even sure what this means) look in the slightest bit petty to an outsider who has no idea what has gone on. No sirey. No wait, I got that completely wrong. As I say I have no idea in the slightest what's gone on (and I don't want to, group politics really isn't my thing), but the 12th Man is really not coming out well from this based purely on these petty sniping posts. As a group they've done great stuff & raised huge amounts of money, but if these posts are even vaguely indicative of those running things then I'll be steering clear. It's all a bit sad really. Dignified silence might have been a better approach.

So if you and a friend were to go on a charity walk together for the same cause, and you raised more than your friend, would you try to rub his nose in it? Would you gloat and try to sound superior, even though it was a common cause? That would be rather pathetic, wouldn't it?

I answered someone's question in a civil and accurate manner and you try and claim the YA (of which I have not been involved in either group for a long time) are somehow trying to hijack it for ego purposes or suggest I have. I know how much the Yellow Army raised, I know how much the 12th Man have raised since the working group took over. I also know how much the Yellow Army (that's the fans BTW) raised for charity and for David Langan since September 13. Good Luck to Trevor and the 12th Man moving forward.

Posts like Aren's do greater harm than good.
Can I suggest that whoever has had their egos/pride/etc bruised about whatever they are bruised about, to get over it and help this club promoted this season.
It comes across to someone not involved in either effort as childish.

I have to say I find the posts by aren whoever he or she may be pretty distasteful and unnecessary. Like bb, I've responded to previous posts enquiring about fundraising in a factual manner and I dislike seeing a negative spin put on straightforward reporting of information. Both 12th Man and Yellow Army have raised cash from the fans, and it's petty in my view to compare amounts, deride one activity or the other, and worst of all to criticise individuals from the safety of an anonymous keyboard. These criticisms usually come from people who don't put themselves out to get involved. Let's all grow up a little and support one another and this great little football club. Sorry to preach.

Although it's a great gesture I personally wouldn't want any of my donations going towards this, it's a short term view and I think we should be more concerned with longer term planning! But as I say that's just my personal view on it and not a criticism against any of the supporters groups although still not sure why we have multiple groups

From club website:
Yellow Army and Oxford united working together
Oxford United striker David Connolly has thanked the Yellow Army for backing him by sponsoring his home shirt.
U’s fans, the Yellow Army, made the cash pledge using funds donated by United supporters throughout the season.
Chloe Smart, 15, of the Yellow Army, met Connolly on the pitch before Saturday’s Sky Bet L2 encounter against Mansfield, on behalf of the Yellow Army and the striker thanked fans for their support.
Connolly, who opened the scoring in United’s 3-0 victory, said: “I’ve been made to feel really welcome by everyone since coming to Oxford – by the staff and the fans alike.
“It’s a great club and the Yellow Army have been absolutely fantastic from the minute I arrived. To sponsor my shirt is a lovely gesture and hope I can repay them by continuing to score goals for the club.”
Chloe, who took part in the 12 mile Yellow Army Big Walk to raise funds for the club and the Helen and Douglas House Hospice last year, was delighted to meet one of her new heroes.
She said: “It’s a great feeling knowing that as Oxford United fans we have teamed up to sponsor David.
“It was an honour to be invited to meet David and I’m proud that the Yellow Army has made a difference to David and the club.
“David scored again, so hopefully the extra backing of the Yellow Army is helping.”
The £144 donation to Oxford United will help the club cover the costs of the striker's home kit. Yellow Army funds can be used to help United in numerous ways, from supporting the club where required, to improving the match day atmosphere. Every United fan is part of the Yellow Army, so if you have any ideas or would like to volunteer to help you're most welcome to get involved. You can get in touch via email: yellowarmyoufc@gmail.com
