I thought he was dire last night, very quick to give them free kicks and watching them climb all over us without giving anything. A comment on the Shrews forum says he was heavily biased towards us though!

I think he was rubbish rather than biased either way.
There were some obvious fouls made by both sides that he didn't pick up, he played advantage some times and not others, the 'penalty' incident, the Shrewsbury wall was about 6 yards back at the McClean free kick, moving ball free kicks etc etc
Mind you, the lino in front of the South stand was a heap better than the useless lump at Northampton!

Thought he was OK, all the refs I've seen let their defenders climb all over our strikers anyway. didn't really notice him much.
Linesmen (specially the one who overturned the 'penalty') seemed unusually competent, too. probably been brushing up on their offside rules the last few days.

Thought the ref was decent last night. On the penalty decision, I wish he had consulted with the Lino first as the ball was out of play as it didn't make him look particularly confident in his decision making.
Very amusing at the end of 2nd half with what looked like a make up decision by the lino in front of the South Stand. He gave a foul on Batty for a shoulder charge, wrongly, imo, and then ignored a blatant foul by Alfie immediately after!

He was awful, missed clear decisions for both teams, from what I can gather it shouldn't have been a penalty, but it was a complete farce. Their striker Collins should have been sent off, if not for the awful challenge on Batt. He should have been booked earlier for stupidly kicking the ball away(just after he closed Ryan Clarke down and was penalized for handball). I can guarantee that a u's player will be carded for that same offence before the end of the season.

Christ, I thought he was one of the better ones! Regarding the penalty, it takes some balls to go back on a decision to award the home team a penalty, and from where I was it looked at good tackle, but will have to see it again. Also, about a minute later Craddock had a let off when he stupidly ploughed through their keeper. No intention on challenging for the ball, certainly seen people sent off for that. Also thought he played the advantage rule better than most.

Didn't think he was good on the advantage rule.
One instance when we had a foul just outside the box and the ball had been played in to Constable who was practically in with a shooting chance, but the ref blew for the foul even though he must have seen Constable had the ball. Two minutes later he let Shrewsbury play on for about five seconds after a foul, until they lost it, then brought it back to give them the free-kick!

I thought he was consistently inconsistant
3-1 win makes it a lot easier to 'ignore' iffy officials I reckon

Ref was Steve Tanner who has officiated in the PL at times. He didn't play the advantage that well and missed a few challenges, but largely was not altogether useless. I've certainly seen worse performances.
As for the 'penalty', what are the rules on giving it and then consulting the linesman? Are you not supposed to blow your whistle, not signal your decision and instantly consult the linesman? He made it a lot more confusing for himself than he could have done. My first reaction was that it wasn't a penalty, but I would have to see it again.

Potter almost sh*gged him and still got the throw-in! The ref had a few dodgy decisions as they all do but on the whole he let the game flow i thought.......

Since both sets of fans think he was biased he obviously wasn't. Useless maybe!! But not biased. ;D

He let Shrews take free kicks and goal kicks while the ball was moving on at least 4 occasions!
