If they gave the ball away four times between them last night, I'd be surprised
Absolutely superb
Maclean is the classiest player we've had since John Byrne...
Their ability to keep the ball relaxes the other players

Agreed But would love to see Mclean in a more central striker role, classy last night but seemed to be dropping quite deep at times to get the ball

Both have been excellent for us but I've got to give McClaren a special mention as he's been a great signing. He makes the midfield click and Clisty is really playing well alongside him.

For me, these two signings have changed things for us in a very positive way. Particularly McClaren. This lad has come straight in to the side and settled in from the very first game. He is the complete defensive midfielder at this level. Well done CW! The only negative(if there is one) is his age and he won't be around long term.

Maclean is class and a great addition for us!!! Really clever footballer and might not score lot's of goals and get the plaudits like Beano does but his class is for all to see!!

Mclaren is pure quality. For me personally I would say he has made the difference. Don't get me wrong the job Maclean does is amazing particularly his hold up play and slotting the ball into Beano and Craddock but we desperately needed someone to link up, scrap and win the ball in midfield. Not only does Mclaren do that he also plays some lovely passing.
Football is a team game and all that but I don't think we would be where we are today without them joining. Now we just need them as permenant additions.

A few times last night I really noticed that Maclean held the ball whilst under pressure for a fraction longer than many players would then delivered an accurate pass after considering his options. That is a rare ability at this level.

I reckon he just needs a bit of time and a chance to settle a bit like Craddock has needed. He may not have all the class but definitely reckon with a bit of work he could have.

Their ability to keep the ball relaxes the other players I was thinking last night of players of similar style who we gave had before, and Byrne was the only player I could think off. I was trying to describe to my mate who McLaren was similar too, but couldn't think of anyone!! Any suggestions??

Similar to Jemson, too for the way he has that extra bit of time on the ball
Jemson, however, had a tenency to give the ball away stupidly. Maclean doesn't

What from watching Sangere has given you the impression that he could be a long term replacement for Maclaren? I know it is harsh to judge him on the brief spells he has had on the pitch but he has looked fairly comical in them, he has managed to either clumsily give away a free kick or give the ball straight back to them.

Maclaren and Maclean are two absolutely class players. Maclaren, however, has stabilised our midfield, which I think is marginally more important than the creative job that Maclean's done up front. Both are absolutely vital to our team as it stands, though.

First time I've seen McClaren play yesterday due to work and I was hugely impressed. Protected the back four well, won headers and didn't panic once. Similar to MacLean in the amount of composure they have buys them an extra second. Also, MacLean's use of his body is superb, he doesn't always go in for headers to flick it on aimlessly when he can nudge the bloke out the way and bring it down. Both class acts.

He played even better against Bradford! They are both key players now and both make the team tick and be more fluent.

I thought Maclaren played a lot like Gary Macalister used to play. I remember a few years ago when we played Coventry in pre-season, he was coming to the end of his playing days, but was bossing everything in midfield. He broke up play and sprayed the ball around to others. He didn't need pace, he had the skill.

I just have a feeling that he is going to be decent. He has some pretty high praise from those back at York. What you have said works both ways, watching 15 minutes of a player who has not played much recently in a game we were already winning 3-1 with a pony ref cant be a time to judge either. To be fair though one tackle was more a rugby tackle than anything else i give you that. If Mclaren was to sign on his recent displays I certainly don't see why he doesnt have time left to play as his age certainly isnt letting him down at the moment. And in that time Sangare will be sharper, fitter etc. If he is a donkey I will happily admit it I just reckon he is gonna do a good job for us.

Sangre is a centre back! I think Chapman may be back this September at the earliest and he's the only player i think who can fill Mclaren's boots, he and MacLean are class.

I said it was harsh to judge him on his brief appearances so far and cant actually see him being used in that holding role for whole games, he has been bought in as cover for the cb's.

Am intrigued to see sangare play now, get the feeling he is either going to a cult hero or f*cking awful (or both). When is the next home reserve game?

I would prefer him to be a cult hero though. I will reserve my overall judgement until I have seen him play a full 90 minutes. You have installed doubt in me as im a bit worried he could be a new version of Futcher. Will have to wait and see.

I was speaking to a Rotherham fan today who didn't really rate MacLaren during his time there. I was happy to inform him what a good player he's looking for Oxford United!

Both have been awesome signings, over the last two home games Mclaren has impressed me loads, he's the exact type of midfielder we needed, and thought he was probably the best player on the pitch for us against Bradford. He can put his foot in and tackle, and muscle other players off of the ball to win back possesion for us, organises the midfield very well, his experience Im sure has helped the other players massively, and he also is a brilliant passer of the ball. An excellent signing by Wilder.

Have faith.. He will score a few before the end of the season for sure. He's had plenty of assists and played a big part in goals we have scored since he joined anyway despite only scoring twice himself.
