The Yellow Army will officially launch at an Oxford United match next month with a bonanza of events, including a post-match party where fans will be able to mingle with current and former players. A number of activities will take place around United's home match versus Chesterfield on September 21st to herald an exciting new era at the club. Before the match Milk Cup winner David Langan will be introduced to the crowd as a special guest - where The Yellow Army will present him with a cheque for funds raised by U's fans to help their hero. Currently £5,146 has been collected. A number of former United stars will join Langan as special guests to mark the big day. They will be joined on the pitch by manager Chris Wilder and captain Jake Wright, plus some of Langan's former team mates. The money was collected in less than four weeks after a campaign to raise funds to buy his Milk Cup and League Two winners medals was launched. The medals will go on display at the Kassam Stadium, as a lasting legacy of Langan's contribution to Oxford United. Financial problems forced the former defender to sell his home and the money will go towards his plan to purchase a mobile home. After the match the Yellow Army Day will go into full swing at the club's training ground with a party. The event will be attended by members of the first team squad and management, development team, ladies team, and former players. Legends confirmed to attend so far include Jeremy Charles, Les Phillips, Anton Rogan, Chris Allen, Peter Rhoades Brown and Joey Beauchamp and more are expected to confirm in the coming weeks. Fans will get the rare chance to pit their wits against a United legends team in a 6-aside competition and have their photos taken with the players and United silverware. An auction will also take place. A BBQ, disco and children's entertainment, including a rodeo surfer and bouncy castle will be included in the ticket price. Fans can also buy specially printed Yellow Army money to play on a casino table. Tickets are now on sale via the OxVox website and will be on sale in the 12th Man Bar on matchdays, priced at £30 for adults, or £50 for two adults, plus £10 for children aged 7 to 14. Entry to the six-a-side competition is £100 per team. All money raised, including profits from the bar, will go towards The Yellow Army's goal to raise £20,000 by January to boost Chris Wilder's transfer kitty. Doors will open at 6.15pm for a 7pm start. Trevor Lambert of the Yellow Army said: "This promises to be a fantastic day. The spirit is back at Oxford United and the official launch of the Yellow Army will bring everyone connected with our great club together. "Fans will be able to mix with players and management from the first team, the ladies, the development squad, and several legends. "It's testament to the club and The Yellow Army that all of the Oxford United teams have pledged to attend. The club is all about the fans and the players, past and present and this event epitomises every that is special about Oxford United. "We're delighted that the club are backing our launch party with such gusto and honoured that David Langan will be joining us along with several true United legends. "There will be something for all of the family at the party and every penny raised will go into the 12th Man Fund to help the club." Hope as many of fans can attend this as possible we've got an excellent local caterer involved and should be a really fun night. A great chance to mingle with the owners, players past and present, the ladies team and development squad, as well as other fans. The great news is that we also will mkae money on every drink sold from the bar. Prices have purposely been kept low and this is not a gala event its a night to celebrate everything that's good about supporting Oxford United. Anyone who buys a ticket can also be safe in the knowledge that they will be directly helping to strenthen the team in January. All profits will go towards the £20k target the Yellow Army is aiming for to help Chris Wilder further strenthen his squad in January.
More legends will be announced in the next couple of weeks but Dave Langan is the guest of honour and he can't wait to say thank you to all the fans who've donated to him. If anyone wants to enter a 6 a side team to play against the likes of Joey, Chris Allen, Rosie, Anton Rodgers and many more its a ten minute slot and its £100 per team. Slots will be filled on a first come first served basis. To enter a team email comms@oxvox.org.uk

September 21st may seem a while away still but it will come round quickly, and there are just 2 home matches between now and then which will be great chances to get your tickets in the 12th Man Bar. Alternatively buy them online via the link on the OxVox website that Mark has posted up, above.
We truly think this will be a memorable event and a great chance to get together with friends, players, owners etc and have a great evening.
Yes it's a fundraiser but it's also a good event at a reasonable price for an evening out with food included. The 6 a sides alone should be worth the ticket price! - well, maybe not, but you know what I mean.

Yep, hats off to the organisers behind this. Exactly what Oxford United used to be like back in the Manor Ground days.
Will seriously consider coming along to this. Would the club be approachable to the idea of including a family match day ticket bundle which would also include entrance to the event?

This is a yellow army event so the club can't sell ticket bundles as this would mess around with cashflow and make it more complicated than it needs to be. The £20k we aim to raise will then be a donation to the club.

Believe me I'm not being negative but I can't help thinking that if the party was at the ground straight after the match people would be much more willing to attend. They would only have to get to the ground then rat would be it for the evening, instead of having to go to the training ground. Was the ground considerd as a possible venue?
I will be emailing JL to ask if he wants any help with publicity for the event

Yes it was considered but it would have cost circa £3k to hire the ground in the evening. It's costing noting to use the training ground and we get a bar take. So economically it's a no brainier.
We've now got the legends 6 a side squad completed:
Alan Judge Anton Rogan Andy Melville Chris Wilder Mickey Lewis Paul Wanless Les Phillips Joey Beauchamp Chrissy Allen Peter Rhodes-Brown
Other legends in attendance are Jeremy Charles and Dave Langan. Hope to have one or two more in attendance.

In fairness, as someone that does a lot of venue booking, £3k is an absolute steal for the stadium for that length of time on a commercial basis. When the choice is 3k or free though, given this is a fund raiser, the decision makes itself. However, and not being in any way a supporter of Mr K, 3k is a pretty reasonable ask if you're going to ask anything at all - and he's never done anything that would have suggested this would have been free surely?

I agree that £3k doesn't seem too much to hire a stadium, but as it was following on from a match day, I'd have thought that the yearly rent, and service charges might've covered it.

£3000 may not be much in relation to the venue but £3000 is £3000, which is near enough 20% of the target that has been set by the Yellow Army. Every Little Helps.
There is also the issue with being in more control of the profit margins by going to a different venue, for example the food and drink which Uncle Firoz and his crew won't get.

www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/10619924.Your_golden_ticket_to_meet_United_heroes_past_and_present/Your golden ticket to meet United heroes past and present 1:50pm Monday 19th August 2013 in News OXFORD United legends past and present will mingle with fans at a celebration aimed at bringing the club’s community together. The event will officially launch fans’ group the Yellow Army and raise thousands of pounds to buy a new player in the January transfer window. It will take place after the match against Chesterfield on September 21 and feature a six-a-side game between fans and former players, a barbecue and disco. The aim of the day is to bring the entire club, from the chairman to the fans, together. Trevor Lambert, of the Yellow Army, said: “We want to regain the spirit of the club, as it was at the Manor Ground. “We are trying to bring everyone together – the fans, the first team players, management, owners and youth team – to share a great evening together. “We are doing everything possible to get the maximum number of fans there to make it memorable. “Back at the Manor, there was a supporters’ club and a clubhouse where after a game the players would go and meet fans. “We are trying to recreate that, people doing something other than turning up just before 3pm and getting back in the car after the match. “We want everybody to work together for the success of the club. A united club is a successful club.” The day of events will kick off before the match at the Kassam Stadium with a cheque presentation to U’s legend and Milk Cup winner David Langan. Yellows fans have so far raised £5,146 to buy the former full back’s Milk Cup and League Two winners medals, which will be kept at the Kassam Stadium for posterity. Mr Langan was forced to sell his home after financial problems and plans to use the money raised to purchase a mobile home. Straight after the game, the Yellow Army Day will take place at the club’s training ground off Roman Way, Cowley. The event will be attended by members of the first team squad and management, development team, ladies team and ex-players. Fans will get the chance to take part in a six-a-side competition which will feature past and present U’s stars Alan Judge, Anton Rogan, Andy Melville, Mickey Lewis, Chris Allen, Paul Wanless, Peter Rhoades Brown, Les Phillips and Joey Beauchamp. There will also be a barbecue, disco and children’s entertainment including a rodeo surfer and bouncy castle, as well as an opportunity to have photos taken with Oxford United players and the club’s silverware. All money raised, including profits from the bar, will go towards handing manager Chris Wilder a £20,000 transfer kitty in January. Mr Lambert said: “What we are hoping to do is make a huge dent towards our goal of raising £20,000 by January, with the aim of getting an extra player into the first team.” Doors will open at 6.15pm, allowing fans to head to the event straight after the final whistle at the Kassam Stadium, for a 7pm start. Tickets cost £30 for adults, or £50 for two adults, and £10 for children aged seven to 14. Entry to the six-a-side competition is £100 per team. Tickets will be on sale at the 12th Man Bar on match days at the Kassam Stadium and are also available now at oxvox.org.uk
