Lets get one thing straight right from the start; this is not a "pop" at CW at all. I think he has done a good job in the 2+ years he has been here but I cant help thinking that all our inconsistancy could be down to CW's relative inexperience as a league manager. That could also be said of ML and AM. I was just wondering if Chris could do with a really experienced league manager as his assistant, just to guide him and give him that little bit extra. I've no idea who that could be... maybe someone like Dennis Smith for example. Only a thought.

He needs some help in identifying quality defenders as that has been our weakness this season. You think Andy Melville would be able to spot a quality defender...

Surely a really experienced league manager would not want to play second fiddle?
How about Jim Smith. He has a little experience......................

Would Wilder want help and guidance and be told by someone else tho?
We always hear about Alan Hodgkinson's experience. And Jim Smith is always a phone call away for him.
Wilder is his own man. That has good points and bad points in management

Why would Wilder want an experienced manager to help him??? If he is not up to the job then the club should take a lead from Wilder himself. Wilder works on the "If your not good enough" then its "your free to find another club" style of man management.

Wilder strikes me as a very obstinate man. His attitude to players, press and fans when his methods are questioned prove this. Therefore I feel that he would not want nor listen to help.
Presently most fans seem to be blaming the players for us falling short this season. So the question is does Wilder have a problem he needs help with? Personally I say yes, his problem is his tactical inflexibility and he welding to that single formation for every game. This contributes to our inconsistency as some teams counter the way we player better than others.
The mark of a great manager is being able to learn from his mistakes and to fix them. In order to do this you have to understand your problems and sometimes admit to your self you were wrong. I hope as this season comes to a close all blame is not but on the players and that Wilder doe have a look at himself too. Otherwise I fear next season will be a repeat of this one.

I think all thats needed is an experienced coach, possible a forwards coach. Chris Wilder will always talk to his coaches and listen to advice or ideas. So an additonal coach i think will help a lot

Think he's mentioned in the past that he is close to Dave Bassett.
Probably looks to him for advice.

I don't get this Wilder is not experienced thing at all. He has been a manager for 10 years has'nt he. Ok it has been in Division 5 effectively and now we are in Division 4 and also he was a league player for god knows how many years. He also has plenty of help from 2 guys that also have plenty of experience of league football, one of them was even an international.

This is a fair comment, but just because players have league experience, doesn't mean they can manage. Some of the best players in the world have been hopeless managers.

Wilder has 436 games under his belt as a manager, as well as 484 appearances as a player. You would be hard pushed to find any 43 year old who can boast that. He may not have much league management experience, and although the step up to League 2 us bigger than I thought, it isn't that much different. Perhaps the thing Wilder has learnt is that League 2 has a few more players with wise heads who can win you games. He hasn't got the balance right, but at least he has recognised that and plans to address it over the summer. We have some good youngsters, so I don't think we're a million miles away. Our team compared to what we put up before Wilder is far superior. If he keeps that trend going we are only going one way!

The way some people are talking you would think wilder has been a total failure at this club. FFS we are 11th in L2 not 24th. There are plenty of experienced Managers that have failed this season. Lets have a bit of perspective.

Well said scoob
We've steadily improved under Wilder and while there are obvious flaws in the current team, he will see them as clearly as we do and I reckon he'll sort them out. Despite our weaknesses I think we're only a few players short of a very good side.
