For what it's worth I would firstly like to say that I'm behind Wilder and what he is trying to achieve here at OUFC, and I have enjoyed this season. Next season we all agree that we will be expected to be there or there abouts in regards to promotion....
I could work for him - He seems like a straight up kind of manager who tells you what he expects but I am a little worried about some of the personalities we have at the club and whether they are responding to him and his style of management. We seem a little fragile. We are a team who can go from one extreme to the other - from the sublime to the ridicilous.
I'm involved at amateur level and what amazes me is how sensitive, needy and undisciplined young men are these days. It's all changing and perhaps Wilder is the last of the analogue football managers trying to manage a new wave of digital footballers?....

Am 32 and joking of course but having to work with and having played football myself with some of the youth I agree with you, they are extremely touchy and cant take either instruction or criticism (constructive or otherwise). It must make managing them in any capacity a nightmare. People are so soft with their kids and mollycoddle them so much that they are totally unprepared for life. Dont know what the club can do about it but would of thought backing the manager against the sulking brats and showing them that they wont get away with it is the best plan.

I think this thread applies more to PL players. I think they're pretty grounded at L2 and can take the criticism. They're L2 players so they can hardly bite back and say 'Look who I am'.

Oh - I dunno! many amateur footballers are difficult. I think its more a society and age thing. You know - the kind of attitude where they believe the world owes them a living.

It's a product of the selfish, me first society that was introduced under Thatcher.

It's a product of the selfish, me first society that was introduced under Thatcher. Nothing at all wrong with the 'me first' approach. I'm in this world for me and my family before anything else. Whats wrong with that ? Why should spongers benefit from my blood, sweat and tears and 14 hour days ? **** them.

I just cannot imagine CW giving players a proper rollicking. I mean the mother of all rollickings when it clearly is deserved. We had two or three yesterday at least who evidently did not give a f**k when the going got tough.
He's not nasty enough in my view and that is backed up by the number of poor performances recently especially away from home where players are simply not playing with the right attitude and desire. There has been some shocking displays away from home at Lincoln, Stockport and Bury and in my view a lot of our players don't appear to be professional enough.
We seem to regroup, get a defeat out of our system but invariably capitulate a game or so later. The team lacks backbone and leadership. The players cannot handle pressure and expectation.
We crumbled at Gigg Lane after 45 seconds - completely unacceptable. We conceded a goal from our own short corner!

We conceded a goal from our own short corner! Slightly off topic - but we keep taking short corners. From them we keep losing the ball without getting it in the box and quickly turning attack into frantic defence. We've been doing it all season. Everyone in the stands can see it - why can't the players/management? I honestly can't think of a single time it has worked! Can anyone else? (There have been a fair few quick free kicks where we have done the same!)
