Darren Patterson took some stick when he was here as manager and justifiably so but we will always have him to thank for bringing Beano to the club. Without Beano's goals, heaven knows where we would be.

Beano is a legend, he's 2nd goal was pure masterclass. Can we gain back to back promotions?

I think Wilder and Thomas deserve the praise for bringing Constable to the club on a fixed deal.
Patterson deserves no praise.....for anything.

Sorry brahmabull I disagree with your assessment of Patterson. From all accounts he does deserve credit for his work with the youth team. Also he was not always an abject failure in coaching roles. If you want to blame anyone for his stint as manager blame Merry et al. After all it was him who promoted Patto to manager without any thought of an interview process. It was a role that Patto just clearly wasn't ready for and could cope with.
I think Patto does deserve credit for bringing in Beano. Just as others deserve credit for negotiating for him to stay.

I always thought Patto could spot a decent player - he just couldn't manage them...

There were a few occasions last night where I though Beano was going to go past a defender and his touch or pace let him down. He looked a little bit off the pace. In the interview after the game on RadOx he said he didn't mind coming off towards the end as he was knackered. I think the illness he had is still affecting him slightly (he commented on it).
I guess what I am saying is that a not 100% fit Beano scored twice last night. Wait till he's firing on all cylinders again!

Patto always had an eye for Constable. I remember him saying he was the best centre forward in the Conference after a game against Kidderminster.

Patto hardly "spotted" Constable,i bet 90%of fans from the conference wouldve had Constable down as one for their wishlist.I know plenty of people from this forum wanted him the season before we got him. Spotting someone like Constable isnt really a talent once hed proved himself.Whereas spotting someone like Adam Chapman or Josh Payne before theyve even played a senior game is a talent. So yeah,Patto deserves nothing.

I think you misread my comment oxford84 we are not saying that Patto mealy spotted Beano. He went a lot further and was able to engineer a loan for him. You can't not give the man credit getting in a player just because he is already recognised as good. In fact getting a player as good as Beano to agree to come to club a division lower even on loan is admirable.
Some on here may hate Patto for his failure as a manager but is write off everything he did achieve is very harsh. Patto was no Talbot or Rix both of whom did immense damage and left little for their successors to work with.
