Following on my recent thread on are we good enough for the playoffs - are we now good enough for automatic promotion?
3pts off, albeit having played a game or 2 more than some of our rivals!!
Fantastic 3 points today!! ;D

I think we only need to worry about Bury catching us with games in hand, they've got Shrewsbury on Friday night, a draw would be very welcome.

let's not get carried away. Others have games in hand...i would rather have the points in the bag in this league but let's consolidate in the play-off hunt first of all!

Very unlikely, but playoffs are certainly a possibility.

I would love automatic promotion, to be honest id love any promotion but its gotta be one game at a time at the moment, Cheltenham will be tough. Some of the football we are playing is quality just need to keep it up and tighten up a couple of bits.
I'm going for 6th ath the end of the season just missing out. At the end of the day I think it is a testament to everyone involved with the club that we are 7th after a lot of heartache over the last few years at times.

Only start talking about auto unless we're 1 point behind 3rd

Why pile pressure on? Two months ago people were saying we were going to get relegated, now it's automatic promotion. Let's just enjoy the ride for a bit, enjoy having a team playing well, playing for the shirt and enjoying being at the club. It's been a bloody long time since we've been able to say that!

Anyone who thinks auto promotion wasn't at the Southend game. That sort of performance is not auto promotion material. Hmmm.

On the one hand - we are occasionally suspect defensively, we still haven't kept a clean sheet since the last ice age and we do tend to fail to turn up every now and again.
On the other - I've not seen a single opponent this season play as well as we did at times tonight. When we're confident and on our game, there's not a team in this division we can't beat. And we're really not far off third place.
Suspicion is that we're just not going to be consistent enough to reach the Top Three and stay there. But it should be a really fun end to the season seeing us try!

When you look at the results we have got against the teams above us then yes i think we should be aiming at automatic promotion!

But it should be a really fun end to the season seeing us try! I think that pretty much sums it up. While i believe we can still make the playoffs I do feel automatic promotion is beyond us and consistency could be an issue with regards to finishing in the top 7. Sorting out our current inability to keep a clean sheet would be a big step i feel, as it would allow us to get results in games where we are perhaps not quite on our game. Games which we will lose at the moment because we can't help giving the opposition gilt edged chances to score.

Its our home form against the mid-table teams that has let us down so far with losses to Gillingham, Torquay, Southend and Aldershot so we have picked up only four points from six games against the middle eight. We do have a chance to improve the average on saturday against Cheltenham.
Some key opportunities that we have are:
home games to come against the top four so some huge six pointers.
We have away games to come against all of the bottom five and home games agains two of them! If we cant pick up a good points haul in those games then we do not deserve auto promotion.
I feel that we may have just shifted our form enough to get into the auto spots now but there is a long way to go and consistency will be the key.

Personally I feel there is no reason why we can push for automatic promotion. I hope we have had our blip and will stick my head out and say we will finish 3rd

Bury, Torquay and Stevenage will have to up their form considerably if we maintain ours (or even drop off slightly) for the rest of the season: itv.stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D3/oform.htmlStevenage look the strongest of those three at the moment particularly over the last 4 games.

Do you think CW and KT have incentivised the squad or there were targets and incentives at the start of the season?

Worry about the next game and to hell with thoughts of promotion (until it happens, of course)! ;D ;D ;D ;D Of course that is the best way to be but we all know that if we lose against Cheltenham then, to some, we will be on our way to relegation. There will be widespread panic akin to the Kassam pitch opening up and those buried horseshoes appearing with the Horsemen of the Apocalypse above them. Some people can't see the bigger picture. Sorry about the slight exaggeration.

We need to keep pur feet on the ground. a negative here is the fact that we have played more home games than away games

to stay up is the first priority, hopefully that will be acheived sooner than expected. then we can relax and play like we have been recently with no pressure and who knows what will happen. personally i am happy to stay in L2 for another season and build next year, but i would be over the moon if we made the playoffs or auto promotion. i,like others have said, think stevenage will come strong once their cup run has finished, look at their run at the end of last season, but all we can do is do our best and win as many as we can and the rest can chase us.
