Clapped off by the shrews who attended tonight. Good to have two strikers scoring and one doing the holding. Long may it last

Let's not forget, James Constable can't score goals in the football league.

Let's not forget, James Constable can't score goals in the football league. I know a scout from a prem team (were championship last year). He saw Beano last year and stated that Beano would never score if we got into the league!

We are very lucky to have a player who tries so hard. What he lacks in his first touch/skill he more than makes up for in effort.
I took two mates tonight who i think may now have a new hero...
He was absolutely magic tonight. The runs he was making for Maclean off the ball were outstanding too
I love that man!!

I think some people just look at Beano and see that he misses chances, think 'battering ram' and immediately dismiss him. Apparently they've never watched Tevez play.

Constable does seem to have slipped under the bigger club's radar. The disparaging comments from Simpson may actually have done us a favour with regards to keeping him, as they may well have turned bigger clubs off the idea of signing him.

Don't usually look at other teams' messageboards, but was interested to see what Shrewsbury fans were thinking tonight. Rather funny: blueandamber.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=71003And they have awesome smileys too....... And on the general issue, agree entirely with WfE. He might have a slightly leaden touch, he might be hit-and-miss in front of the net but he's strong, quick, can absolutely leather a football with both feet and his work rate and attitude is just out-of-this-world. If there's ever a player at this club we should be idolising - it's Beano.

Fooking priceless: "I liked the look of him here, and he has had a great goal scoring record since then, but even the Oxford fans dont think hes that good, just in the right place at the right time, just like Darren Bent, and look how much hes supposidly worth. To me this epitomises the strength and competition of our squad. Beano plays for the first part of the season, is relegated to the bench in recent weeks, remains patient, then comes back into the side and takes his chance(s), and now cements his place back in the first team. Brilliant.

Is Constable hit and miss in front of goal? His scoring record suggests that he is not. As for being leaden footed the pace and aggresion he plays with mean he is always going to have the odd slight f*ck up but rather that than a pedestrian Rob Duffy type player. I think because he has been so good for us for such a long time we can be to harsh on his flaws, when he is virtually irreplaceable. What other forward are we going to get with his ability to be a goalscorer and target man and workhorse?

Beano is a legend in my eyes.
Whilst he may have scored his goals in a lower division than the others in that list, he's the man who almost single handedly took us back in to the league and saved the club.

Beano is already an Oxford great in my opinion. Where is he now in the all time scoring list? Atkinson 107/398 = 27% Tony Jones 100/356 = 28% John Aldridge 90/141 = 63% PeterFoley 90/321 = 28% Joey Beauchamp 77/428 = 18% Bud Houghton75 /114 = 66% Paul Moodey 75 /197 = 38% James Constable 64/120 = 53% Add in the games played and his record is even better. Aldridge played at a much higher level so he is easily number one. Moodey/Beauchamp mostly played at a higer level but after that the others played at a similar or lower level so considering Beano's strike rate he has to be a contender for number two.

His strike rate is exceptionally high and that is what makes him such a good player at this level. He makes things happen by his strength and guile.

It's exciting to see Beano scoring his way into OUFC legend. For years we've been forced to live off the old days, remembering greats of the past while having to tolerate donkeys filling up our squad. It's great to finally have a player at the club who is attaining legend status right now.

I was willing him to score last night. He has been everything to the club in recent times and I'd begun to feel that people weren't appreciating him as much as he deserved. He's a star for us and just as importantly he really seems to love the club. If I love it I want people playing for it (as much as is possible in these modern times) to care about it too.
