Exactly the same time and same race where Britain got it's first medal in Beijing (Nicole Cooke). And it was pi$$ing it down with rain there too!

To be fair I am not sure we were going to get that many at this time. Cavendish is pure sprinter and the course was hardly set out for a sprinter of his type. I would be surprised if Adlington gets her medal tonight as she favors the longer distance. Furthermore it is hardly days, more day really. Looking good for the rowing though.

Great effort by Becky in her unfavoured event. She should claim gold in the 800m.

So far we have: 0 Gold 1 Silver 1 Bronze. If you do the old fashioned points (school sports day) thing, (3 for gold, 2 for silver, 1 for bronze) we have 3 points, which puts us 16th.
China have: 6 Gold 4 Silver 2 Bronze 28 Points. China is 40 times as big as us so we aren't doing too bad as we are (just) a small island

China will always be top if there's no track & field going on

To be fair our total in Beijing was exceptional. We shouldn't expect that again. We came 4th, that is seriously punching above our weight.

We did well because there's been alot of serious investment and we reaped the rewards. Beijing was the Benchmark because we are still strong in many areas like Cycling and rowing and we should still get medals on the track too.

Eh? I don't disagree with any of that. I said our medals total in Bejing was exceptional and we'll struggle to match it. China, the US and Russia will always occupy the top 3 places. To come 4th is pretty much as good as we can possibly get. 5th 6th or 7th would not be failure at all.

Look Amarillo, I don't know why you are arguing with Moobs over this, he will never accept 4th place as success as you well know ;D

Are we really doing that bad? After day three, yes we are lower down the medal table than we were at Beijing, but that is purely because we haven't hit gold yet. We had 3 medals the end of yesterday evening, as opposed to 2 in Beijing 2008 at the same point in time. And as I said before, we have still got our strong events to come. I agree 20th doesn't look good but I expect things to normalise a bit towards the end of the week or beginning of next week once we fill our boots in the rowing and cycling. No need to panic yet! www.guardian.co.uk/sport/datablog/2012/jul/31/olympic-day-3-medals-compared-beijing
