Come on Pete, we all know you paid fifty quid and a turnip and are now the lord of the manor with (rumour has it) an extensive acreage...

Are my hands getting bigger or has the average size of a chocolate bar shrunk over recent years? Mars and Yorkie in particular. Double Decker and Twix however, appear to have maintained their vital statistics and are therefore, my confectionary of choice. Well I have just heard that some US chocolate conglomeration has 'redesigned' the Toblerone solely for the UK market with less 'triangles' See www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37904703Bastards

Is midfield an area we need to strengthen?
Lundstram, Sercombe, Ledson, Rothwell, Ruffels, Crowley all central midfield.
Add in the wide midfielders or strikers who can play there (Maguire, Macdonald, Hall, Johnson, Roberts) and we have a plethora of riches in the middle.
Would a striker be a better option - we have a few who don't look like scoring or make little other contribution.
Or do we want/need a wingback on the left? Or even on the right if Ribeiro is still out for a while?

Tunnocks are lovely. However, the chocolate coating has been reduced to the point where it is more of a brown smear. Disappointing.
How about Viscounts? I know mint biscuits aren't to everyone's taste (they always remind Mrs Zero of toothpaste) but I love 'em.

If I was going to throw something, then I would pick some of those horrible Italian biscotti things. Hard as rock with sharp bits of nut sticking out. Thank god they'll soon be banned from our shelves as soon as May gets her act together!

Sorry, but digestive biscuits should come with a warning... 'Liable to collapse under intense dunking.' Hob-nobs are surely safer? You need to work on your dunking technique. Hob-nobs are digestives with training wheels.

A plain digestive is surely the utility player of the biscuit world.
Happy to accompany a cup of tea or coffee and dunkable (if that's your bag) but also perfect with cheese and pickle and an apple.

I can't say I find it an exciting or interesting draw. Away, somewhere we've been before, expensive to get to, a team that is low enough down in the leagues that it will be embarrassing if we lose and just about high enough to mean that is a possibility if they play well and we don't. I suppose the best you can say is that we've got a decent chance of making it through to the third round. For pity's sake, are you 'half glass empty' or what? The whole idea is to reach the 3rd Round and we have an excellent chance of doing so. Who cares whether it's somewhere we've been before or not? If you attend the majority of away games - and I assume you do - there's very chance you've visited before. Yes, but given the chance I would like to enjoy the actual day, not JUST see it as a stepping stone to the next round. So I would rather: a) go to somewhere I haven't been before (novelty value - enjoyed Merstham very much) b) go to somewhere I haven't been for quite a while (I suppose Macc is a few years now mind you!) c) be at home (more likely to progress. Probably) d) go somewhere relatively cheap and easy to get to (for me that's not Macclesfield) And yes - I know the whole idea is to get to the third round - notice the bit where I wrote "We've got a decent chance of making it through to the third round"? Sorry if you would rather I pretend to be delighted with the draw, but for me (personally) it's a bit meh.

If anyone is interested the crap cup game against some U21 team is live on Chelsea tv tomorrow night. I suspect the only real interest will be in seeing Rob Hall make his comeback. Mind you, we might win the penalty shoot out bonus point - I'll be on the edge of my seat.

There was a supporter near me who when the lino came to check the nets at the start of the game was giving him all sorts of abuse. Effing and ceeing the poor bloke - who hadn't yet made a single decision, good or bad. I couldn't help thinking that it wasn't quite the way to endear our team to him when it came to raising his flag or not for a marginal offside! Here's the link. Rather more balanced - "The visitors started the game as expected. Calm, composed and ultimately dominant, and took the lead early through a superb Alex MacDonald free-kick from a central position that found the top corner." Clinical visitors display class on and off the pitchErrm - I *think* you meant to quote the post above mine?

I've been thinking for a while that 'Danny' is actually an account that has been created as a laugh to see how long we would believe he is real. 'Are some of your best friends black as well?' 'Yes I do' Brilliant!

Yes a decent bloke. How much are we talking about? I was trying to work that out. If there were 2000 tickets on sale and we had half each... We didn't sell out, Merstham did. The crowd was 1,920 - so lets's say we sold 920. Tickets were 15 quid with under 16's a fiver, so lets say an average of £12. 12 x 920 is about £11,000.

I see from your notes to last meeting the sale of ground could take sometime are you sure mr K is not not just taking you for a ride this cold go on for years and years. Is he only saying this as DE has put in an offer and he just doesnt want to sell full stop Not going to ask do you trust him BUT !!!!!! Not speaking for OxVox (only as a member), but if there is a chance that this might happen they have to investigate it. Those on the OV committee are of course well aware of Kassam's past record and of course there is the possibility that he will not follow through with his declared good intentions - but it does need looking at seriously.

I thought Merstham were a bit unlucky to go into the half time break two down. They didn't show very much until after we'd scored and then put us under a bit of pressure. But the second goal before half time was the killer blow.
Unsurprisingly because of all the changes we looked a bit at sixes and sevens at times, but improved as the game went on.
Ledson did well, Johnson is starting to show why we paid for him, Dunkley and Martin were decent together. We were a bit porous down the sides of the defence I thought, but then Sercombe and Johnson aren't defenders! Despite scoring two goals, I'm still not convinced about Hemmings. Even less about a Taylor/Hemmings strike partnership.
I thought the Merstham number 3 was a halfway decent player.
The locals I talked to were friendly, and it seems like a decent little club. All the best to them in the future.
For us, it was a potential banana skin avoided and time to look forward to the second round draw.

Full first team. Our last three games have not been brilliant. Giving the first choice players a further chance to play together and hopefully get a confidence boosting win is a must. Of course, that backfires hugely if it all goes Pete Tong! Are you basing that opinion on performances or results? In part - both. Performance in both halves at Coventry (although the second was a bit better than the first once the subs came on) and a loss to the bottom club. The first half at Port Vale WAS excellent - the second was not half as good and we threw away a 2 goal lead. Millwall was better than Coventry, not as good as parts of the Port Vale. And of course we threw away a lead again. I'd say (with the exception of the first half at Port Vale) that classes as 'not brilliant' over all whether looking at performances or results. (I haven't mentioned the winning curate's egg of a performance against Bradford or the poor defeat to Wimbledon (with one particularly poor half).)

What team do we think we should play? Play the 1st XI or give fringe players a run out? Full first team. Our last three games have not been brilliant. Exactly. The people who do this are more concerned with looking 'big' in the eyes of their friends than the well being of the club. And for that reason I would be quite happy to see them banned for as long as it takes them to grow up.

You need straight (not 'bowl') stands that are close to the pitch, with the noisy home support behind one goal and the away support behind the other. Fill the corners in to keep the sound in (and wind out) and the roofs fairly low so the sound doesn't float away. Personally I prefer double decker stands to really tall, steeply banked affairs.

Builds the atmosphere of course Pete When flares, smoke and other stuff is used en masse on the continent it looks excellent. When one numpty surreptitiously chucks one on it's own, it is just a bit sad. The club have repeatedly asked people not to do it, but some people just can't control themselves. When they get caught I'd hope any bleating about it is treated with the disdain it deserves.

Also with regard to train strikes, I believe Thameslink is still running every half hour through Merstham. Yes that looks like it is right - and from where I live looks like a (relatively) quick and (relatively) cheap option. Compared to driving down the M1 and halfway around the M25, that is!!

I would hope that MAPP has a Plan B for January if current concerns continue regarding the top third of the pitch. Will be interesting who stays and who goes (loan or otherwise) just hope that we come out of it stronger and more competitive for the second half of the season. Well it looks like Hall and Ledson are getting closer to being available for the first team. Nelson is already back. That only leaves Ribeiro of the long term injured who won't be available to play a significant part before January. Certainly long enough (at least another 10 matches) for Appleton to see what we are missing and hopefully there is something left in the kitty to strengthen in those areas.

There are very few professional footballers who aren't 'mercenaries'. It's just a job like any other - but one with a short working life they have to maximise. Of course, some players may develop an attachment to one particular club or may even be a supporter - but that is rarely enough for them not to put their own best interests first. And quite rightly - a club won't hesitate to get rid of a player that might be indispensable one week and surplus to requirements the next!
