It completely depends on who you talk to.
Your average Oxford supporter will say 'Season Ticket holder, goes to a dozen or so away games'
Your average Man. United follower from Kent who hasn't been further north than Wolverhampton will say its someone who 'supports' their club from down the local pub in Tonbridge.

"Players, managers, and board members may come and go over the years, but the constant of any football club is the fans, and the fans that do stay constant regardless of the club’s situation are the ‘proper’ fans".
That sort of sums it up for me..

It's not about having season tickets, going to all the games home and away. It's about sticking around through the bad and the good times. I hate it when fans think they're better fans than those who can't make it week in, week out.

Is there such an animal? Either you are a fan of the club or you are not. You support the club through thick and thin regardless of how many games you have been to during a season.
Oxford 'til I die.

The author made the assumption that anone showing an interest in the Piece probably owned a shirt. I had to stop reading at that point I'm afraid

While I do understand Malc's movement of the thread I was hoping it might get a bit more exposure first. Maybe N&I or FL section? Misc tends to descend into all sorts of entrenched arguments - religion/politics/Ken
(ps has dannyc been seen since the cull?)

Depends on the age and health of the supporter I would say. A supporter who I had the privilege to know before he passed away at 80 used to go to lots of away games and what is more he used to encourage around twenty young teenage supporters to go too. There would normally be around five adults accompanying them and they would also try to go to as many games at home as they could as well. They would support the club in the heady days of Division One and still support them as they fell away to Divison Three and beyond. I have followed Oxford for more than forty years and although I can't always get down because of work commitments I will always be tuned into the radio usually whilst watching Sky sports too. Probably when I retire I will have a season ticket and go to all the home games like I did before. It does also depend on how close you live to the ground. In the eighties I used to do a 200 mile round trip from Chelmsford and still manage games like Liverpool and Derby away

Is there a difference between a fan and a supporter? Discuss..... A 'fan' is someone who likes a club for a specific reason, but not necessarily is commited to them. For example, I like Barcelona because they play majestic football. Others may like a team because of family influence/glory hunting. A 'supporter' is somebody who goes to games regularly therefore paying for a ticket, therefore funding the club. Or, giving their 100% commitment to their team. I can think of many on this forum who are 'fans' but not 'supporters' (i.e Moobs)
