I dont think its any coincidence that since hes came in we have looked a different team , an unsung hero who goes unoticed throughout the game but is a very important player who gives our other midfielders a bit of a free reign , its a toss up between him and Maclean as to whos been signing of the season id say

Agree with that.
He is immense and he's one of those players whos like a magnet to the ball. Ive rarely seen a player with such good positional sense and he uses it simply but effectively.
They are both massive signings and I think McLaren edges it. Shame we didn't have him early season because we just lacked that bit of experience as we were finding our feet in this league.
I think CW could do worse than tie him down for another year. He might not play every game next season but he looks fit, injury free and the sort who would be an invaluable asset even if we made it into league one.

I've had enough of these quite ridiculous spellings McLaren and MacLean[/size] Both have a big 'L'. Paul is a Mc and Steve is a Mac I feel a lot better now

i often forget mclaren is on the pitch as he goes about his duties so well. he has made a big difference to our midfield, height and putting a foot in where it has been needed.

McLaren hardly gives the ball away. Agree that at 6 ft 1" he is also a presence and can head the ball.
Ronnie Moore said afterwards on Saturday (and he has worked with McLaren at both Tranmere and Rotherham) that Rotherham had to change their shape to 4-3-3 to match up Oxford due to McLaren's role and ability in midfield.
For a 34 year old with 500 plus Football League games he looks remarkably lean and fit - a super pro and he and Clisty are great together in midfield.

I've been very impressed with both Macs since they came into the club.
To be honest I'd never heard of McLaren before he signed, but he's been excellent so far. His passing for this level is much quicker and more accurate than you'd normally expect.
I'm hoping that Josh Payne is watching and learning in training and on match days.
Well done Wilder - good signing.

I think the signings of both Macs have been the catalyst for our more positive approach to games now, particularly McClaren.

Solid player who plays it simple, and hoovers up in front of the defence
