Athletico Madrid!
Pleased for him, he got knocked back by us and he's stuck with it and gone and got himself a contract with a top club, fair play!

I wish I had known that Hoddle's academy was at that resort a month or so ago. It was on my shortlist of two hotels to go to and I almost booked it but decided on the other at the last minute. My girlfriend will be relieved because she want's to get away from football. Oh well.
Good to see that Alex has gained from his time there and wish him well in the future.

After seeing how much he has bulked up physically over the past eighteen months I had a feeling he'd make something of himself yet, but Athletico Madrid? Bloomin' 'eck! Fair play to the lad if true.

Very few would have believed that Anya from Oxford City would have joined Sevilla. I can't confirm it but anything is possible. He's worked hard in the gym so can certainly hold his own now. This was his major fault with us. His finishing ability was never in doubt.

I rated him when he was here, always good to see youngsters go on once they leave...

I don't care if hes a 9 stone weakling, if you can the ball in the net you will make it. From what I saw of Fisher his finishing was in doubt and, along with his lack of stature, that was the reason he never made it here. I saw him spurn a few chances in his time wih us and he never looked to me to have that killer instinct in front of goal. Fair play to him if he's worked on his game and who knows he might make it but to suggest we knowingly got rid of a predatory striker purely because of his slight frame is nonsense.

Just looked at Atletico's website - doesn't appear to be anything about the Fish on that. Also checked him on google Spain and there is only one news story about him, explaining his disappointment about Jerez Industrial's recent performances.

Could end up a regular in the 2nd team then which is in the 3rd tier of Spanish football if iirc. It is the tier above where GHA players have been playing for Jerez Industrial. If he becomes a regular for the 2nd team there then he has a real chance to impress at the least other teams in Spanish 2nd Div or smaller La Liga teams even if not pushing through at Madrid.
As for OUFC missing out, in one sense yes we may but at the time, imo we weren't in the position to pay the wages of a player for a few years until he matured physically and others were ahead of him for 1st team places. I could see why the club could have stuck with him but I can see why the club didn't as well.
I hope we are now in that position being back in the FL with the grants and being profitable (based on statements by the club) that we can give promising players time to develop physically such as Aaron Woodley. Iirc, Joey Beauchamp took a season or 2 as a pro, including a loan at Swansea before breaking into the 1st team.

Aint he in there 2nd/3rd team, who don't play in a higher standard than what we do? The same will be with Fisher. He was no way good enough for us. And his finishing was very average. He was even the worst player on the pitch at the celebrity-legends game

No disrespect Rollsy but I've seen him play enough over the years to know that he's a good finisher. I understand that Anya doesn't play first team football and I assume any move for Fisher would be at a similar level.
Baldy, why was Matt Taylor released? He can finish a chance. He also happened to be two foot tall. You're either saying Taylor can't finish or that he was incorrectly released, right?

Fish scored against at the time Englands no 1 good goal to. Played on trial for Daggenham and Scored against Spurs reserves. Shame we let him go.

You cannot compare taking a chance for North Leigh in the Hellenic to taking chances in the Football League. Messing about I could probably stick five chances out of ten, from say six yards out, past Clarkey but put me in a match situation and I'd get none out of ten. I don't doubt Fisher looks good in a kick about with his mates but thats no yardstick to doin it on a. Professional level. Clarkey

Good luck to him. I've the upmost respect for how he's reacted to being given the axe from us. He deserves to make it in football if his desire's anything to go by. Maybe he needed the knock back to focus on his game and progress?
Unfortunately we don't have the resources to stick with young players until they start to realise their potential in their early 20's.
Neither do most teams which is why we're able to pick up others cast offs and also rans.

Clarkey He never was taking (or not taking for that matter) chances in the football league because we were in the conf for his entire time as a 1st teamer for us. For what its worth I thought he was a good player let down by the fact he was a complete lightweight. If he's sorted that out he should do well IMO.
