Looking at all the photos of that kit when we actually wore it the blue seemed a lot lighter in shade.

I moaned a lot about our current shirt when it was introduced. After seeing these photos i am a little happier. I guess it could be argued that this season's shirt is a brief throughback to an older era which i suppose is not a bad thing. I suppose that it brings back some good memories for some of the older fans? It is amazing how they have one in such good condition.

Great shirt then, great shirt now! The badge is the wrong colour though according to OxKits: www.oxkits.co.uk/70s.htm#75According to OxKits, it was the first ever yellow and blue kit and those colours have of course stuck until today. We also got relegated the first season we wore that!!

As far as I know, we didn't wear a darker navy blue until the mid-80s, and this photo from Oxkits looks pretty different. Is the kit featured in that link a modern reproduction?

In the 1974-1975 season United played in all yellow. It was a pale yellow and pretty bland.
The club decided to introduce royal blue into the kit and went for the wide yellow and blue stripes, blue shorts with yellow trim and yellow socks in the summer of '75. Some loved it but lots loathed it ( a bit like today's version) and it lasted for two seasons before United decided to switch kit manufacturers from Umbro to Admiral in 1977.
I'd love to be able to buy that retro Umbro style shirt as featured in the flickr image above.I started watching United in 1975/1976.

I didn't like the mid 70's striped shirt and I don't like the current striped effort either.
Shirt should be yellow or gold, with navy/black shorts.
And yes, I am a grumpy old git. ;D

I also don't ever recall us playing in a navy blue kit in the 70's. That kit featured must be a mock up. As far as I can remember it was the wang kit in the mid 80's which was our first navy blue kit.

OxKits does say, and show, that a few different colour variations of the badge were used, but the pic of Peter Houseman from 1975-6 does show that the badge was indeed different in the first season that kit was used And as others have said the blue in that kit does look much more navy than was actually worn. Also, the picture shows the Umbro badge as being a transfer, whereas on the Houseman photo it is definitely stitched in. Attachments:

So what's the kit in the link then? A prototype perhaps? Wouldn't explain the wear though. But I doubt they would have gone to the trouble of making a mock up and then ageing it to make it look worn.

I rather like the present stripe, both as something different and given the lack of alternatives available in the Nike range. Don’t like the 1970s badge.
Question is whether the Umbro, like the Nike, is a stock design or if Umbro made it for Oxford?
