I'm surprised he didn't go earlier. There was a vote of confidence about two months ago and I though he would go then. Albeit having lost some of their better players Wolfsburg have been in freefall since he took over. Its odd because McLaren seems either to have impressive success at a club or abject failure. It cannot be said he is just a useless manager because of his record at 'boro and especially Twente, but in the Wolfsburg and England jobs he has been a catastrophic flop.

The board gave him plenty of chances which is more then most clubs would have done, it just wasn't the right place for him. It is weird how he can do well at certain clubs and so badly at others. Will be interesting to see what accent he picks up next

The wolfsburg players? england players? Twente players? boro players? the ohio players? If this is some kind of back-door sideswipe at england players you're flogging a (very) dead horse danny.

So capello did a great job for england in the world cup, it was all the player's fault that we were sh!t?

So in your eyes danny no manager should ever be sacked and when a club goes on a bad run all the players should be sacked??

Thing is, Danny, pretty much the same players won the Bundesliga in 2008-09 under Felix Magath. It clearly is a motivation problem, more than a talent thing - in which case, you have to look to the coach. If he can't motivate the team - you've got to fire him and find someone else who can.

I always find this argument over motivation hard to understand. A manager should not have to motivate any player. The players should have enough responsibility to motivate themselves. They should play for their own pride and for the supporters who pay their wages. Even if they dislike the manager that should not make any difference. I dislike my boss but I would not dream of not doing my job properly. I have pride in myself. Players who cannot motivate themselves in a job that most of us would die for should be ashamed of themselves. I played football myself, admittedly only at a local level, and I would like to think I always gave 100%

Players should always give 100% and enjoy their football and that's largely to do with the manager getting the best out of his players. You're a teacher, are all your pupils self motivated or do they need some encouragement from time to time?

One I hadn't thought of and that I cant argue with.
