I was Rochdale by birth. On the crawley issue, there is definate potential for their fanbase to grow. The place has a huge population of just over 100,000, that's only about 50,000 behind Oxford and yet their average home gate is still much lower compared to the population that OUFC's. I guess there's the influence of other clubs nearby and easily accessible, but if Crawley managed to raise their profile sufficiently and made a real effort to bring in the fans, I think they could reasonably expect their gate to rise to 5-6k. I agree with your conclusion. They have a big catchment area with lots of decent sized towns within half an hour drive away. Brighton is 40 mins to the south, Palace similar to North. Nothing to the East except Gillingham which is an hour away and Aldershot a similar distance the other way. It may take some time for their crowds to grow but it should happen if they maintain league status for a few years.

So these 27 people who are coaching the people of Crawley on how to be supporters, I wonder how much they're being paid?

I saw the Crawley coaches on the M40 on Sat morning. They had themselves a convoy. Their coach firm Crawley Executive coaches must have made a few quid out of the day because they supplied most of them.

I think the few of us that were there that fateful night made some noise even though we were spread all over the ground and mixed in with the home fans. It was very difficult to keep it going though when we were watching an abject performance by our players. Thank god those days seem to be well and truly history.....................

After countless years playing dross (and I remember watching Crawley playing Didcot in the old Metropolitan League) I don't blame Crawley fans for wallowing in the big time while it is there.
