Agree with the comments about mindset. Sadly it's the modern way to go about batting. Everyone wants to see a fast flowing knock. Everyone is on about run rates and strike rates.
Root is a classic example of this. His conversion rate is appalling, despite maintaining a healthy average of around 50.
I'd like to see some of the Lions / young lads get a chance.
The likes of Lawrence, Bell Drummond, Livingstone deserve a chance. Even Sam Northeast has scored consistent runs for Kent over the years with out ever being called up.
Could also argue for 2nd chances (Vince, Ballance have had plenty) for Lyth and Duckett!

Haseeb was an unlucky boy and seems to be in Bayliss' bad books. A shame as the lad has something different to offer and will offer some grist to the batting order. Vince is terrible as a test batter and should be at home watching it on TV. I'd much rather go for a young batter with a tough attitude, than some idiot who can't stop himself swishing at balls as soon as they are bowled something wider than the stumps.

Done a quick bit of research - scores made by Root in his last 15 test matches:
56, 1; 124, 4; 53, 25; 15, 78; 21, 77; 88, 6; 190, 5; 78, 8; 29, 50; 52, 49; 136, DNB; 59, 72; 1, DNB; 15, 51; 9, 67.
The stats are pretty clear, and if our best player isn't converting enough scores into match winning knocks then we're always fighting an uphill battle, especially with so many lesser players around him in the top 5.
