I know many events were last night, but tonight is the real date!
Remember, remember! The fifth of November, The Gunpowder treason and plot; I know of no reason Why the Gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot! Guy Fawkes and his companions Did the scheme contrive, To blow the King and Parliament All up alive. Threescore barrels, laid below, To prove old England's overthrow. But, by God's providence, him they catch, With a dark lantern, lighting a match! A stick and a stake For King James's sake! If you won't give me one, I'll take two, The better for me, And the worse for you. A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope, A penn'orth of cheese to choke him, A pint of beer to wash it down, And a jolly good fire to burn him. Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring! Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King! Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray! 🇬🇧

And most importantly let’s hope there are no injuries to any one.

A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope, Very clever. You managed to get a hate speech onto the forum. So much for you to be proud of.

I hope you're not suggesting that sectarianism is practised and supported on this forum? It will soon be explained to you that you have misinterpreted posts (because you're thick, presumably) and that you should better appreciate 'our' country's history (because you're thick, presumably).

The same history in which a pretty fair number of historians believe that the 'plot' was orchestrated by Lord Cecil (one of a few who can come close to rivalling OX4EVA's swivel-eyed bigotry and presumably a hero of his), King James' chief minister The purpose was to encourage the new King James to excise Catholicism from England (by force, brutal force).
Makes some people proud to be English, evidently.

I've learnt a lot about the espionage and intrigue of the period, and the notion of the whole plot being designed to allow the further crushing of Catholicism in England seems both plausible and likely. But then the BBC are a bunch of pinko scumbags, probably promoting their own anti-monarchy stance and brainwashing the population.
