Excellent summary of the match if I may say so, spot on in every respect.

Good read as always. One question however - no pre-match pint?

Good read as always. One question however - no pre-match pint? Drapers Arms. It's in the first part cos ownership issues were discussed with Brizzle fans over pints. Very good it was too.

Thank you Paul. As good as ever. Two teams going at it with some intent and us, fortunately coming out the victors. I have made my comments on the officials and the incident with Henry elsewhere but, it is worth another mention that the referee did not, in my opinion, have an overall good day.
Aside from that the day out ended well with a win which made up for the delay on the M4 and the detour made to avoid the Wellington after the game to drive away from Bristol!

Paul, Good report on a tough but deserved away win. ๐
"With the return of Wes, selection of Josh Ruffels and a centre half pairing of Nelson and John Mousinho things have gone the other way and thatโs not by luck. So it must now be fair to faintly mention the play-offs (or better?)."
Think also it's clear that our return to winning games and not conceding many goals is linked to the return of Ribeiro into the back four. Look how we faired in his 3 game absence.
Teams playing well and hopefully the squad with strengthen as Obika and Hall return. Back to having a duper strong bench from which to win games late on. Up the Yellows

Up the Yellows Yes, fair point although some don't like Ribeiro that much. Scapegoat needed even when we are doing well although he's not quite in that category. Also Henry on the right makes a difference.

Like that a lot. Surprised no mention of Payne's early left footbed ball in which Thomas didn't quite gamble on for a tap in. Was early on in the second half and for demonstrated what a player Payne is.

Thanks Paul. Excellent write up. Will be interesting to see what happens when Hall is fit. Whilst I admire his skills he, like Payne, is lightweight and I wonder if the additional strength/stamina of Ruffels with Rothwell wide is also part of our recent success.

He was for me our best player in that poor run we had. The only one looking able to go past opponents and make something happen. Now though if we have everyone fit and available (unlikely I know) I can't see a place for him in the starting XI.

It has been pointed out elsewhere (Facebook) that I've got it wrong about Rovers being the only team we've played away on three different grounds. I'd completely forgotten I'd seen us play Rotherham at the Don Valley. Awful stadium now pulled down. So add that to Millmoor & the New York Stadium and they're another. Other suggestions are Charlton at the Valley, Selhurst Park and Upton Park. (I'd need to look it up). And Wimbledon - Plough Lane, Kingsmead and again Selhurst Park. Again I'd have to look the latter up.

I share your frustration with 'Goal Rush', Paul, and very clearly the two clips they showed provided no sense of the sort of game you've described. As someone who is unable to get to many games, I really appreciate your reports, as it's the only way I feel I get a balanced view of them.
I also agree with your comments about our next three games. It IS too early in the season to believe the results of these will define the final outcome, but we'll certainly get a better sense of whether the three straight defeats OR three straight wins were blips!

I think I ought to say that I'd rather have Goal Rush in the current format than not at all. It was the commentators writing off of this game as not being memorable that really got to me. So far from the truth. Bristol Fans on Gas Chat thought it was a good game too.

Very tense, real end to end stuff. I'm pleased that even though I am now into my 50s I can still get carried away and go absolutely mental on a terrace when we score a winning goal !

We meet up with some Rovers lads we know after the game and they all thought we have a good team , and was a very fair result and deffo a memorable game even after their 6 win the Saturday before. And for me Ribeiro is a big part of our 3 straight wins!
