League one and two clubs are discussing bringing back plastic pitches from as early as 2019.
I assume that these pitches have come on significantly since Luton/ QPR days. Has anybody seen anybody play on these pitches recently? How do they play?

Well I went to the pre-season game at Oxford City. I presume their pitch (being brand new) is representative of what they are like nowadays. If so, it played OK - but it did not look at all as if it played the same as a natural pitch. The bounce and run of the ball were different (judging from the sidelines of course). The odd black 'splash' of particles when the ball landed or a tackle was made looked very peculiar and, in the hot sun, the whole place smelled like burning tyres - that's just aesthetics though I guess.

It was its debut...and around 28c that day! 😀 No smelling of rubber now or those black splashes!

If it happened, could we look at moving to/expanding City's stadium?

If it happened, could we look at moving to/expanding City's stadium? But what if we got to the Championship? We'd either have to remove the plastic pitch or move again?

Any league 1 club who looked at getting a plastic would show a real lack of ambition IMO. I can understand clubs such as Crawley, Stevenage, Accrington, Forest Green, Cheltenham, Barnet and Morecambe getting it done but other than that I think most clubs would have ambitions of eventually getting up to the championship.

If it happened, could we look at moving to/expanding City's stadium? No, not a chance. I walked round it the other week. The car park is now about 50 spaces, and the areas behind the stadium have now been replaced with massive flood defence ponds that can be filled when needed. The surrounding transport infrastructure is probably worse than the Kassam, marsh lane is grid locked every morning and evening. There just isn’t the room there, not to mention the amount of work and money it would need to get it to meet league regulations, let alone the capacity we would need.

Has anybody seen anybody play on these pitches recently? How do they play? Didn’t Sutton United play Arsenal on one in the cup recently? Can’t remember what the Arsenal players/staff made of it tbh

Played on one at Bisham Abbey today for OUFC Walking football. I really like it, and the one at the Oxford Academy thats recently opened at a cost of £600000.
Not sure about using in the Football League though....although England played on one tonight.

They have come a long way from those dreadful artificial pitches of the eighties. QPR's pitch was a freak show as i remember. These days they are closer to the real thing, but I don't think they are quite good enough yet for league games.
