... the boxer? Seriously, what a joke. Putting aside his age, the skill and amount of training it takes to become a pro-boxer, he says it'll give him something to focus on. Er, what about your kids who have already lost their mother? I don't think they would want to worry their father getting seriously hurt. I know I wouldn't.

Seems a desperate move from someone who doesn't need to do it. Especially at his age. But then again, he was never the smartest of people as a footballer was he?

And that rigged farce of a fight was a joke too. If he wants to go the Curtis woodhouse direction then best of luck to him however he is simply too old to have any sort of substantial career in boxing. I imagine we will see a documentary tracking his progress followed by a fight live on dave where a journeyman is given a handsome fee to make a show out of it. Bit p*ssed off to be honest after the McGregor farce that boxing is having the mickey taken out of it. If he's bored then he should go and take up golf.

Isn't this just another case of a retired sportsperson taking up another sport in order to try and recreate the emotions they experienced from the other sport? Understandable imo.

Possibly although the wheelbarrow of money no doubt plays a part - I'm sure he wouldn't be doing this for the love of the sport. Generally I'd be loath to criticise him too heavily however as he has had a lot to deal with in recent years.

What weight class would he fight in? Any idea? I'm sure there will be plenty of fighters willing to punch him in the face for a good payday. Failing that he could always take his coaching badges and fail as a manager like most ex-Man U players.

I read cruiserweight, which is madness if he fights anyone with half a pulse, they are basically the size of old time heavyweights and can hit like them. It will be a staged fight though, it's not the sport for a 38 with no combat sport background to take up professionally.

Curtis Woodhouse was 26 when he turned to boxing, but I agree with you that 38 does seem a bit late in the day for making a substantial career out of it. What I can see though is a 4 part documentary on Dave followed by a 4 round fight against a tubby, out-of-shape journeyman, just like we saw with Freddie Flintoff. I've no issue with him doing this - it's good light-hearted entertainment, but serious attempt to become a Champion boxer? I ain't buying that.

Woodhouse had a history in boxing and was in good sporting health. Ferdinand is neither

James Corden and Jack Whitehall will pop in the gym to provide support and some light hearted comedy. Someone like David Haye will do some padwork with him and be 'shocked' at the power he has. We will see some grainy camera angle of some guy persuaded to take a tumble against him for a couple of 100 quid meanwhile Shane and Barry McQuigan pronounce he's in the shape of his life. Maybe I'm cynical but i predict I will be pulling this post up again in the future.
