It's quite a good idea. 2nd and 3rd place teams are rewarded for finishing higher by hosting each semi final. Whist the next 4 play a one legged quarter final with the higher placed team playing at home. If you finish 4th - 7th it's still 2 matches to get to Wembley

I assume that if Sutton finish in the top 7 then the 8th placed team will replace them due to FL rules regarding plastic pitches?

More games at Wembley, more money for the F.A.and more money to pay off the massive over budget construction debt.

I guess the thinking is its gives more teams come the end of the season something to play for.
It'll be interesting to see how it pans out come April/May.

The plus point is that it gives teams a genuine advantage the higher up the league they finish. Being 2nd/3rd will be much better than 4th/5th, who in turn will have home advantage against 6th/7th.
The negative is that a team finishing 7th could get hot at the right time and get promoted over a team that's been lightyears better than them over the course of the season. On average over the past decade, the 2nd place team has finished ~20 points ahead of the 7th place side. Bit unfair that that can come to nowt when it's promotion time......
