I had no idea that the EFL could force a salary cap(per player) on football clubs under a transfer embargo ? www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wanderers/15524199.Shock_EFL_salary_cap_reduction_has_hurt_us__admits_Parkinson/According to Phil Parkinson, the EFL told Bolton in July that they have a cap of £4,500 P.W. on players. While £4,500 P.W. is a lot of money in the real world, when competing for players in the Championship against teams like Sunderland with parachute payments,it's a drop in the ocean. Now iv'e tried to find some rules on FFP in the EFL. I've found loads of info on the Eastern Football League in Australia !!! But the only one i can find is this one, www.efl.com/news/2016/december/efl-financial-fair-play---sky-bet-championship/Which states a salary cap in the Championship of £600k P.A. which is considerably more than £4,500 P.W. So does anyone know where this £4,500 P.W. comes from ? P.S. The only thing i could find on League 1 was that you are only allowed to spend 60% of your income on players wages.

I have very little sympathy for a club like Bolton who were paying players 15k + a week in league 1 and wonder why they were so far in debt!
Maybe a reality check might do them some good.

Perhaps it's based on their turnover?

Are Bolton still c£170m in debt or did Holdsworth's takeover deal with that?
