I would like to thank Oxvox for the update I received via email last evening, however there is one sentence that I feel needs some clarification.
Firoz Kassam and the City Council will need to ensure for their own sake that the new owner is properly organised and robust.
I fully understand why OCC would need assurances if they are to be the major shareholder, however why would Kassam? Surely after he has sold his stadium it would no longer be his problem or indeed his concern, unless of course he intends to retain a % of the deal?
In addition to the above, will the new owners be given the right to change the name of the stadium, or is this one of the complex issues. The inability to sell the naming rights will have a negative effect on more than one front.
can you clarify?

Educated guess...... these are the sort of confidential negotiations that need to remain so. FK maybe saying "Keep my name on it for 40 years & I`ll knock £xxxx off the price". Other parties maybe thinking "We can sell the naming rights for £xxxxx every 10 years".
Personally I despise the "Stadium Naming Rights" thing myself....... Grenoble Road will do me.

I imagine one major aspect of the negotiations is where the statue of Kassam is to be erected and who is going to pay for it.

FK seems to want to retain control even though he really shouldn't care. Very funny

If that's the case then surely there should have been no reference made in the statement. Now we will be trying to ascertain what and why the sentence was included.

Having read the statement again' it is clear that there is a difference of opinion regarding "keeping the club and the board updated" If DE and the OUFC board are being told what the statements have told the members, then the notes in the programme's regarding not knowing the detail, is correct as there is obviously a very tight confidentiality agreement in place. This must exclude the owner of the club being informed.

I suspect it means they want to be sure the Community Trust is robust and has an appropriate structure (which we will find out in due time if it goes ahead) for the long term. In the Council's case it would be very important because of what has happened at Northampton. For FK, it will partly be ego (I suspect) but also he will still own the majority of the Ozone complex so the Stadium will still have an impact on his other businesses.

If Uncle Firoz insists as part of the negotiations that the stadium retains his name, then I'm sure he'd want to ensure for his own sake that the new owner is properly organised and robust.😳

If Kassam agrees to sell surely he would need to be sure that whatever entity is the buyer that they can actually finance the purchase and complete the deal. Otherwise Kassam will come out appearing somewhat foolish and he is not known for coping with that. I agree that the potential naming rights or retention of the Kassam name has to be part of the negotiations and could affect the price due to its effect on future revenue.
