8TH OCT 2016
The following statement was released to local media today:
06.00 Saturday 8 October 2016
OxVox, The Oxford United’s Supporters’ Trust and Firoz Kassam, can confirm that constructive and positive discussions have taken place over recent months regarding the potential for future community ownership of the Kassam Stadium. Whilst both parties remain in the early stages of these talks, we would like to place on record our thanks to Firoz Kassam personally and his Board of Directors, for working closely with us to explore and support the Trust in discussing options for the long term ownership of the Kassam Stadium.
Talks remain confidential and private at this time, but both parties are keen to progress the conversations further over the coming months.
Firoz Kassam said
“While there is a great deal to do before any agreement could be made to make the Kassam Stadium community-owned, I am happy to confirm the principle, after discussions with OxVox, that the target for the stadium is that it should pass into community ownership for the future security of the football club and the benefit of the local community. I look forward to working with OxVox further in the coming months to make progress towards that aim.”
Trust Chairman, Jem Faulkner added
“Meetings and regular communication has been going on for some time with various key stakeholders and that of course has included Firoz Kassam and his Board. The highly constructive nature of our talks with Firoz Kassam have been very encouraging and it has become clear that he shares our vision to see if a community owned solution for the stadium can be achieved for the benefit of OUFC, it’s fans and the wider community. Everything is all still at a very early stage and there is much detail to work through, but the willingness of all parties to talk openly and discuss the possibilities gives us great cause for optimism.”
STATEMENT ENDS

Ok, it generally is, what people ? Club, council/councils, oxvox, local business, fans Can't see where the finance is going to come from to fund this though. I did mention some kind of share issue but not sure we have a big enough fan base to make it feasible.

Did Kassam tell Oxvox about DE bids? Er I would be 100% sure that DE and Oxvox would be in constant communication about this and have agreed the way things are going.

Club, council/councils, oxvox, local business, fans Can't see where the finance is going to come from to fund this though. I did mention some kind of share issue but not sure we have a big enough fan base to make it feasible. I would expect that the council would put money in in return for the use of the Stadium/ training facilities. Some businesses will no doubt be involved and there will need to be some funds raised also. Maybe even Mr K will be contributing in return for building approval (?!). I expect that this is one of the key things that Oxvox is working on.

As a follow up of course funding will be required to not only pay for the ground but also to build the 4th stand and to update the stadium.

www.oxvox.org.uk/21oct2016-kassam-stadium/22ND OCT 2016 OxVox issued the following further statement on the stadium discussions yesterday, 21 October 2016 The purpose of this statement is to provide additional background information to OxVox members and to all United supporters about the continuing discussions regarding the future ownership of the Kassam Stadium. Initially we had three aims: to establish if the stadium could be acquired; if so, to determine what kind of sale was possible; and finally to ask Firoz Kassam to make his views public for the first time. All three objectives were achieved in the joint press statements that were released on Saturday 8th October 2016. Discussions between OxVox and Firoz Kassam had been going on for some considerable time and a strong collaborative relationship has been built. The timing seemed right for both parties to make a statement that clarified our joint thinking. We now intend to press on with plans to deliver a genuine community stadium for the benefit of OUFC, our amazing fans and of course the wider community. To recap and confirm: Firoz Kassam has agreed, in principle, to sell the stadium to a community based ‘Trust’ or similar. This does not necessarily mean to OxVox on its own, and it is more likely that we will see a combination of like-minded partners come together to acquire the stadium. Having driven this initiative, OxVox will remain in an influential, central and co-ordinating role as the process develops, as well as being a key partner to the eventual outcome. It is difficult to put a time frame on how long this will take. If it were a person-to-person sale, then the transaction would be relatively straightforward. This is a more complex arrangement, with various parties involved. We will keep OxVox members and the wider fan base informed as key stages are reached and things become clearer, but it is important to note that this cannot be rushed. ‘Pricing’ and funding streams have been discussed at length, but there is still work to do and therefore, for now, this information needs to remain confidential. Please be assured that although not finalised, we believe we have workable and deliverable plans in place. OxVox is also engaged with sports stadia specialists to look at funding streams, both pre and post a potential acquisition, as well as to get a full understanding of the future development potential for the stadium in terms of increasing capacity to a level that can match the club’s ambitions. OxVox membership has risen to over 770 in recent weeks. We encourage as many fans as possible to join the Trust at www.oxvox.org.uk to maximise the collective influence of OxVox over the shape of the eventual deal. Many thanks to fans for your continued support in what we trust will be an exciting period for OxVox, but much more importantly for OUFC and our community.
