...love them (when I am a neutral). That was great viewing, just a shame the Germans won again.

I hate them, not a true reflection of a football game. Some of the local kids competitions have a different way of settling drawn games. Extra time sudden death, after 5 minutes,if nobody has scored, each team takes a player off, another 5 minutes, another player and so on.

I don't know if it still the case but when we used to play in 6 side tournaments if it was a draw then it was decided on a corner count

In all fairness to the Germans, they missed 3 penalties. How often does that happen? The Italians had more than enough chance to wrap up the shootout but failed to see it out!

I'm just imaging that happening in, say, Wales vs. Portugal.....and after another 50 minutes, it ending up being Gareth Bale vs. Ronaldo locked in an epic battle until Judgement Day and trumpets sound......

Never mind the flamenco-dancing number 7, the blame for me rests with Pelle...the very embodiment of "I don't know what I'm doing"

But if they don't do that, or they don't have penalty shoot outs, how do you settle a game that needs a winner? Personally I can't see anything wrong with kids playing extra time. For a start, how often does a game need this? Secondly, most kids games last 60 mins, if they then play another 10 min ew extra time they've only played 80 mins, they will all go and play football with their mates for longer!

Secondly, most kids games last 60 mins, if they then play another 10 min ew extra time they've only played 80 mins, they will all go and play football with their mates for longer! It was Grove 6s this weekend,up to under 11s,the games were 8 minutes,no half time in the group stages,5 minutes each way in the knockout. Football for kids has changed a lot in the last 5 to 10 years. Up to under 8s its 5 a side,15 minutes each way, Under 9s/10s, 7 a side 20 minutes each way, Under 11s/12s,9 a side 30 minutes each way. So they dont play 11 a side until under 13. Tournaments are the largest form of income for most clubs, resulting in a lot of them letting to many teams enter. Without a quick way to settle a game, these tournaments would last forever. Grove played in a tournament at Highworth, first game 9.30am,played in the final at 17.30 !!
