When has Wrights height been a physical factor of us conceding? Today it was poor judgement. I cannot remember when he's ever been outjumped. What about all the goals we concede from crosses and corners? Can you find one where Wright loses out or misses a header? I cannot recall one from memory.

But, why do you think we always look vulnerable at corners etc? I think it's because we lack height at centreback, or have centrebacks that don't fight to get their heads on crosses (not necessarily the same as 'missing' a header). To maybe add weight to the theory that we don't have centre backs who are good in the air, can you tell me how many other teams in League 2 have yet to have a centre back score a goal for them?

We have the smallest centre back partnership according to something that i've read somewhere.
My point is that - even though Jake lacks height - he doesn't actually lose out on that many headers.
I would blame coordination between Clarke, Wright and Worley a bigger problem.
Vermaelen is the same height as Wright. He copes alright

As i've said before ability in the air is something which can be coached and is not really related to height. To use some well known examples, Tim Chill is one of the best headers of the ball I know of despite being fairly diminutive in stature, while beanpole peter crouch couldn't head a ball to save his life. I don't think your point about corners rings true either since we have been so woeful at putting in deliveries for the defenders, or anyone for that matter, to head in that its no wonder no one has quite got the hang of scoring from them yet. For me the one who should be looked at is melville. It is his responsibility to ensure the defence works to do its job and if there is a genuine problem it should not have taken 22 games to sort it out.

Any ideas why we do concede at corners ,set pieces, and do not score from them either.I have said its lack of height .eg the opponents head the ball before we dO.I am not critiscising individual players as it is something we need to sort out. Hence our poor goal difference, as it seems a lot of goals have been conceded from the above.Any answers??

What do you mean by that , how do you rectify this.

Extra training I suppose.
I mean like someone (usually your keeper) has to coordinate your defence at set pieces.
Also Wright left the ball to their striker to lob over Clarke who was off his line - even though Wright did mess up - he could have had Clarkey behind him if Clarkey had known/presumed that Wright wasn't going to make it.

A lot of the time we're conceding from balls into the box, not because our defenders are beaten to the ball by a taller striker, but because our defenders have a lapse in concentration or are not organised well enough, leaving attacking players in acres of space to get on the end of the ball.

Exactly, and all of this points to a problem with the coaching or a the system rather than the players themselves. It is not a case simply of our players being physically incapable of scoring from set pieces or defending them with confidence, it is simply the way we approach these things which is letting us down ATM.

Wright is short for a centre back in the modern game and of course shorter people can head the ball. But it don't half help a forward if he is up against someone who is 4/5 inches shorter which is very often the case with Wright. Agree with you about Cahill who uses timing and strength to the maximum. But to say Crouch can't head the ball is ridiculous.

Heading is certainly not Crouch's strength.
