I think we'll see a franchise city based IPL / big bash equivalent soon with 8-10 teams including Brum, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Southampton, London x2 and Bristol.
Bell and Ballance are up to it. They're just out of form. We can't throw them out based on that unless we have a clear replacement candidate. Bairstow was awesome today but has been poor in the past. Billings is pretty unproven. I say it's more a confidence thing and the new management will prove critical in that area

Somerset fans would love be branded as Bristol!

Whatever they choose to do, they have to ignore Sky/BT's money and sell the rights to a terrestrial tv channel like the Big Bash.

Bell and Ballance are the batsmen I'd question. I don't think KPs form is good enough to force the conversation at the moment. Agree. But then I am a big Ian Bell fan, and he is struggling, although had a good turn of form back at Warwickshire recently. Ballance definitely deserves sticking with, had a great start to his test career. There are times with Bell that I just get fed up with another brainless dismissal. I rate him highly, but I'm reaching a point where if he keeps on this form, we may need to look elsewhere and let someone younger in. Thing is, I don't see anyone really putting any pressure on him. Ballance has got stuck in the crease too often when he first gets in and he needs to prove that he won't get bogged down.

The problem is, they didn't like it when the English players did it back to them in 2005.

Another solid performance in the T20, although the Kiwis did collapse in (old) English fashion losing last five for four runs.

Yep, very good performance. Impressive from Willey and Root as always, wonder if we can carry this form into the ashes...

Bairstow has scored 219 n/o for Yorkshire. Good to see we have depth in our keepers

I'd say he's a better keeper/batsman than Buttler. Buttler adds the ability to score quick runs down the order at 7/8. Bairstow would struggle coming in that low.

Is it completely out of the question to play both?

Well, yeah. Unless you're considering dropping Ballance or Bell. Ballance will mean bringing Root up to 3. And would be harsh as he's been very good apart from the series against NZ. Bell, is class. His record shows that. People will say he was poor vs NZ bit fail to mention his form in the Caribbean.

Bresnan scored 169 n/o, does that mean he's worth a place too? I'm not convinced about Bairstow at test level tbh. I know he did ok against NZ but the Aussies are a step above from that.

I think Ballance would be the one to go if anyone, but it would be harsh and think he might come up big in the Ashes. He needs to really. Bresnan is a shout, not sure where he'd fit in. Maybe Broad?

There's no way Bresnan is getting back in the Test set-up anymore.

Exactly! One big innings doesn't a test player make

I think the batting line up is likely to be the same as NZ with Morgan just nibbling at the edges.
The bowling will be Woods, Broad and Anderson with the biggest question being whether Ali's ineffective bowling could be sacrificed for Rashid

I agree though with you that he should still keep his place in the side, but he is definitely gonna be under pressure to perform in the Ashes.

Bell since being back in England had scored heavily for his county in the slogathon and county championship. He deserves his to start the ashes series. Ballance is the only one who could be deemed to be under pressure. But again, like Bell, that's being harsh. Lyth IMO will be dropped before either ( harshly ) with Root being shunted up to open. Back to Bairstow. Without looking it up, I bet he's a much better FC average than Buttler and he's a much better keeper.

Lets not even talk about Bresnan! Especially after his shocking over in the 20-20 vs Lancs cost me close to £125!

I do worry about butlers keeping. He dropped some clan gets v nz and the Aussies can make you suffer for that
