All a lot about nothing, in my opinion. They've been in for him numerous times before and have bid much higher than that previously. They've also put in a bid they know will never be accepted, at a time that they know he won't leave. It looks more like an attempt from Chelsea to prove that they are targeting top players than anything that will come to fruition.
Also worth asking why they can't stump up for David Luiz (a player they desperately need) when they are supposedly going to pay money like this.

Also worth asking why they can't stump up for David Luiz (a player they desperately need) when they are supposedly going to pay money like this. It would seem like a publicity stunt. For starters Torres is out of form and has been for about 8 months. Chelsea have had 27 days of this window to make a bid so why leave it until now to try and rush through a multi million pound transfer ? You don't just suddenly think 'Ah, why not bid for Torres'. Ground work for a transfer like this would have been set up well in advance enabling a bid early in the window and then you've got a few weeks to iron out the formalities. It looks like a desperate attempt by Abramovich to appease the unrest at Stamford Bridge. I think it could be a goer in the summer though, Drogba is nearing the end at Chelsea and they will need a big name signing to replace him. Personally, I'm not entirely convinced by Torres. I think he's a 90% player but too often you feel he's not giving that extra bit that would elevate him to the complete player. Ability wise he's there but theres lingering doubts about his attitude.

Hearing that he has a 60million clause that allows him to leave if he wants...

To be fair to him baldy, he has been extremely unlucky with injuries this season, and also at the World Cup. Your right he has been off of form, but thats mainly down to the point about injuries I made. Take his performance in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Chelsea in November, that second goal in that game.. Pure class, and shows what he is all about.

Yeah true Junior, 3 goals in his last 4 games. Says on bbc Chelsea still have time to increase their offer before the window shuts, but can't see it happening. There defence has been shocking, so that would be priority.
Liverpool given till saturday to increase offer for Suarez?? Torres to leave in the summer if suarez joins?

£40M for Torres is a bargain. We'd all assume you'd have to pay something similar for Wayne Rooney yet Torres is twice the player if not even better, and a World Champion

Stephane Guivarc'h is also a world champion and, just like Torres, he got his medal in a tournamnet where he didn't score a single goal. Torres is a world champion by default as he played a good part of the tournament as a sub and is was not one of the main Spanish players. He was a bit part player. Whats your point ?

Far more in this than I thought last night. Everybody at LFC was frustrated by the lack of progress on the Suarez deal and Torres had been promised player acquisition in the summer. Torres tells his agent to ask Liverpool to negotiate with Chelsea and all of a sudden a deal with Suarez is struck as a matter of urgency. Amazing what the threat of your star striker leaving can do for a deal. I don't think Torres WANTS to leave Liverpool, but with a total lack of transfer activity he may have HAD to for his career. I'd say it's 50-50 at the moment.
No saying he will definitely stay this month but the statement signing of Suarez could help. Suarez was signed to fit with Torres so will be a major loss is he goes.
Now Torres has got what he wants, I think he'll stick with Liverpool until the summer. I think he might then leave if Liverpool show no signs of challenging soon. The problem then will be that Liverpool's major overhaul will happen this summer and he would be in danger of leaving just as they strengthen. Also worth pointing out that Chelsea's rebuilding job is soon to be extensive as well. He wouldn't have it made for him there either.

I noticed Dan Taylor mentioned briefly Manchester City's interest again earlier.. Not sure Man City or Chelsea would be good moves for Torres if he leaves Liverpool this month or later on in the summer. Perhaps a possible move back to Spain in the summer will come up, if Liverpool don't start to show signs of challenging again??

A few are saying he's handed in a transfer request but rumours in Liverpool haven't been too accurate recently. Wouldn't rule it out though.
Spain is limited for him. He can't go to Real due to his loyalty to his former club and Barca don't have him as a priority. Inter like him but I think he's destined to stay in England.

90% sure he'll go tonight or tomorrow. Apparently all 3 parties want the deal done. Very difficult player to replace.

Yeah very true, Will he fit straight into Chelsea's team though? difficult for a player to slot straight into a new team half way through a season. Dougie where are you getting your info from??

I'd have thought the £23m they've just spent on Suarez is a big hint that Torres is off and with only two days to go in the window a deal some time tomorrow is highly likely. I'd guess Dougie has just added two and two.

The Suarez deal is unrelated. That's been rumbling on all month. If Torres goes now, I think he'd need to be directly replaced by another signing. Nothing to do with adding two and two. There would be a chance I was wrong if I said that but it's bang on. Unless LFC can convince him into a Tevez/Rooney style U-turn, we'll see if your 'Liverpool should sell Torres' theory is correct!
The local lads on Twitter were posting the rumours this morning and they progressed from weak rumours to Torres explicitly stating by phone that he wants to leave. The Times were the first to back up the rumour and now it is common knowledge.

Read the rumours this morning aswell. Read some other stuff by the Liverpool based journo's and the times reporters like you said earlier, and it does seem that he will be a Chelsea player by tuesday morning.
Liverpool won't have any time to replace him though in this window, Suarez is a decent signing but could go badly wrong.

I heard the bid was rejected from a pretty avid liverpool fan. I don't know if that's any indication of whether it was or not though.

The first one was. The £40 million plus Sturridge should be. Liverpool can afford to ask for £50 million. That is the clause in his contract but won't come into effect until the summer. Unless Chelsea meet that, Liverpool could hold on until the summer and then have a more open auction.

Assuming junior's post means he's been sold, can I have a link to the source? Because the news is telling me nothing more than the usual speculation, nothing concrete at all.
