Quite pleased with that. His performance and work-rate at home to Newport was quite poor and the best thing he could have done was to knuckle down, work hard and fight to get back into the picture. However in my view, he gave up as has been demonstrated by going back to Norwich citing lack of first team opportunities. Personally I think this is a shame, thought he had a lot to offer and disappointed that Appleton didn't give him more game time. Simon, think you need to understand man-management a bit more, may be the Wilder years rubbed off on you a bit more! Maybe Sean, maybe. I'd rather players here fighting and trying to prove a decision (a managerial decision) wrong than give up - which might be unfair but looks from what has been said having cited lack of first team opportunities has happened. He was given a great chance here. He was very good at Bristol City away and in the opening league games. He clearly has some quality but what he needs to do is prove people wrong. What's man-management got to do with that view? Are you criticising Appleton and the club. I think they have behaved really well on this especially the comments since he has returned.

Criticising MAPP and other forum members is very easy. Telling us what MAPP did wrong, and what he should have done... Is a little bit more difficult? However, I look forward to your detailed explanation of man-management and how it relates to Carlton Morris' time at Oxford.

He was no better than our own youngsters, looking back it was a bit of a panic loan. However every now and then these children from bigger clubs come good like that lad at Southend last season - ripped us a new one.

When Barnett didn't sign by the start of the season, we needed someone, anyone, to play up front.

Personally I think this is a shame, thought he had a lot to offer and disappointed that Appleton didn't give him more game time. Simon, think you need to understand man-management a bit more, may be the Wilder years rubbed off on you a bit more! Uptheus - Tell us about "man-management"... Criticising MAPP and other forum members is very easy. Telling us what MAPP did wrong, and what he should have done... Is a little bit more difficult? However, I look forward to your detailed explanation of man-management and how it relates to Carlton Morris' time at Oxford. Firstly, I'm a fan of MApp and want him to succeed, but even he can make mistakes, not to mention the Newey, Hunt, Howard saga etc. I'm just disappointed how he's managed some players (Morris, Jakubiak, Brown) and in particular Morris. I had great hopes with Morris as apart from the Newport game think he was a decent player with a lot to offer, but I can understand why he was out of sorts in that game, obviously others don't and that's to do with man-management. Look a young lad moved away from home from a club who are higher up in the league (top of Championship), to come to a lower leagued club to play football. Now we all know that isn't a given and even Morris would known that. When he first came a lot of expectancy was put on him (a player who I believe hadn't played a senior league game before) which would have put a lot of pressure on him. I feel even with that pressure, apart from the Newport game he played well and showed promise. Then we signed Barnett and Morris' days became numbered. So now you have a young lad who came here with great hopes, belief enthusiasm etc of getting game time to prove himself. He's then banished to the bench and watches a player (Barnett) who's replaced him basically play awful/a lot worse than himself (apart from Tranmere game, and Northampton at a push) but still doesn't get game time, even 15/20mins when he can clearly see that Barnett is playing poorly and blowing out of his arse. Now looking at it from Morris' position, he would have understood that Barnett would be first choice and he may have actually felt a bit relieved that the expectancy/pressure that had been put upon him had been reduced with Barnett's introduction. However, whilst he was sat on the bench he would have become disillusioned, especially after witnesses Barnett's performances and not getting the opportunity (even for 20mins) to prove himself again without the pressure. So basically, you end up with a young lad who came here with a lot of enthusiasm and hope wanting to go back to his parent club because his dream had been shattered. This is what I mean by poor man management, and feel Morris' and others (Jakubiak, Brown and I could add to that senior players such as Hunt, Newey and Howard) that could be managed a whole lot better. Now before others mention Roberts, that to me is a different kettle of fish as I believe that relates to whether we should have brought Morris to the club in the first place. Put it this way, it would be a bit like Marsh going to Welling to gets games/experience to develop then being banished to the bench. I think a lot of us would be annoyed by this and questioned whether it was worth it if this were to be the case. Ah well, they're Professional players (not human) so they should except all that shite! Like I said at the beginning, I like MApp and hope he succeeds, and I certainly wouldn't put him in the Wilder mould, but I'm sure he looks at himself and knows he could do things differently sometimes.
