Was listening last night, TB seemed to be a bit of nuisance, but he needs to get more shots in and score a few My Jury is still out on him. What happens when Hylts is out....yes Hoskins may be back, but I still aint convinced about TB.

The last 2 games i though he's been the Barnett we all expected of him. Him and Hylton are forming a partnership that will score lots of goals. I will be happy if they take it in turns scoreing aslong as were winning. Both track back and defend which is good.

Barnett certainly seems to allow Hylton a bit more freedom. Being a big phsyical unit, he takes more effort to mark.
It doesn't surprise me that he has come back into the side and we have won two on the trot. Hylton and Barnett linked fantastically for the first goal on Saturday.

As stated above, I think Barnett might not look the most easy on the eye, but his big physical presence and reputation will allow others more space as defenders will be more worried with him.
If we ever get to see Him alongside Hoskins and Hylton, I believe we could be in for a treat.

he's a good player, works hard (well certainly did on saturday I don't know about last night), holds the ball up well and is always a threat from crosses/free kicks into the box. I actually think he's a bit unlucky to only have 2 goals to his name - had a header which was imo wrongly ruled out against Accrington for a foul by Junior Brown, and has forced a few good saves particularly from headers (from memory against Luton and Tranmere). And don't underestimate his usefulness defensively as well!

Interesting watching the highlights on YP how often the coverage of an attack of ours starts with Barnett on the ball. While Hylton outdoes him in turns of industry and getting the goals, Barnett can get the ball in midfield and make things happen. Maybe exaggerating a little bit, but our attack does revolve around him, even if he's not the one getting the plaudits. Kind of playing the Kitson role from the good bit of last season, only with a bit more desire to get in the box.
I think this has been true for Northampton, Tranmere and (first half) Newport. Take him out against Cambridge and there was a giant hole in the middle of the team that Appleton never really worked out how to fill.

If it was any other team in this League that had Danny Hylton, big Tyrone Barnett and Will Hoskins, all fit and firing, as their strikers we would be tipping them for a promotion push.

But at the moment, only one of those three (Hylton) is fit and firing. Barnett isn't really firing quite yet, and I'm not convinced he's totally match fit. He's getting there though, in both departments. Hoskins is out until Dec/Jan.

To be fair about last night maybe Barnett was one of those who were sick with some sort of bug. We don't really know.

If that tweet is correct and there are no setbacks, that's good news. I presume they'd try to slot him into a dev game or two before putting him into the first team squad. Which would take us into late November?

When does Barnetts loan finish? Hopefully we get a fit hoskins over the Christmas period into January as I wouldn't want us to play Morris up there

Mid December is the end of his 93 day loan. We can't loan him again unfortunately this season. I'd be happy to sign him permanently. He wasn't match fit when he joined us. And has got better with each game. He's a target man, he wont score 20 a season, he never did in his best seasons in this league for Macclesfield and Crawley. But his strike partners did score a lot of goals. We've scored 10 in the games he's played in. He would of had a hat trick on Saturday if it wasn't for some very good goal keeping.

Anyone who can't see what Barnett brings to the team, is, quite frankly, clueless about football.

I've not been convinced by Barnett so far but thought he was very good on Tues.
Started the attack for Hylton's goal and Alfie's pen and was tidy on the ball all game. Offered that physical threat all game.

Anyone who can't see what Barnett brings to the team, is, quite frankly, clueless about football. He is one of those players whose contributions is far greater than may appear. At Cambridge when I heard that he wasn't playing, oddly enough I was worried about our defending of set pieces as he is very good defensively in those areas. In addition he is the type of player that the opposition hates playing against. Even when he doesn't play well, the opposition can't take their eye off him and that enables other players in the team to capitalise. I am sure that Danny Hylton would far rather play with Barnett in the side.

We can loan him again this season, just not as a short term loan. We can loan him in January on a long term loan in theory although hardly earth shattering news, I suspect a permanent deal is being lined up.

It doesn't surprise me that he has come back into the side and we have won two on the trot. Hylton and Barnett linked fantastically for the first goal on Saturday. What your all forgetting is, Hylton's is effectively playing the number 10 role now rather than the right sided midfielder/forward which basically means he doesn't have to bust a gut making 40/50 yard runs up and down the pitch to get back and defend then back again to support the frontline. This means Hylton has more energy (and believe me it looks like he could do with it sometimes) to be more of a threat with Barnett up top, and leave that to the players who seem to have natural engines such as Rose, Potter etc. Something I mentioned to MApp at the fans forum, but he said that Hylton thought he best position was on the right side. That's baring in mind that Hylton isn't the brightest spark in the box! And let's be honest a player would say they'd probably play anywhere as long as they're getting a game. Re Barnett, still not convinced about him, but he has played better (which wasn't hard by the way) in the last couple of games. But I suppose MApp feels compelled to play him as we probably paid a fee for him and it was the number one player he seeker from the beginning with the right DNA whatever that is!!

Dunno but he's definitely been getting some game time. Hear him mentioned on radio oxford most weeks. That's slappy defending again for oxford

Oops, forgot the quotation marks. Thought the article might be of interest.
I've been wondering today whether Barnett is wasted here when we now have players like Roberts Potter O'Dowda who all attack the box. We're not really playing high balls up for a big target man.

I thought that against Wycombe, while he does add to the team with extra height , it means we do tend to just try the easy high ball up to him. Without him in the side we look to hold the ball more and work it into the box, which will also suit Hoskins more

We should all see a very motivated Barnett in the next few weeks. He has gone from Peterborough to the bottom of L2. If he shines again there is no reason why he cant have a great few years with us. If he fails to grasp this opportunity then within a few years he could be back doing courier work.
I think he has loads of qualities. I rate his touch, his strength, his ability to switch play and of course his aerial prowess. I hope that mapp can get in to his head and get him firing again.

I would personally like him to stay. I think he adds to the squad attributes that none of our other forward players offer. He is obviously is a confidence player, he was in his element at Crawley and was practically unplayable. I see glimpses of that currently.

I definitely want him to stay, I think if we can keep him after January we will see him take off and start to replicate some of that form he showed at Crawley.

What were Crawley doing that made him thrive? Don't think its so much what Crawley were doing its more him having some belief in himself. A few goals and if he keeps playing he will return to that form.
