...just it is an interesting story. m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/29483796LVG supports playing midweek friendlies abroad. The question that arises is who the he'll are they thinking of playing? Most of the top European clubs wouldn't be interested if they are in the CL and going outside Europe would lead to travel fatigue. Surely they would be better focussing on top 4 instead ?

They'll be off to Asia and the States and that wont they
Seems a big risk. They cant afford to miss out on the CL again.

Will he complain about the number of games his team has to play towards the end of the season because all his players are tired?

So he moans about jet lack, lack of training time, too many games in pre season and then he comes out with this. IMO he is a over rated manager.

Seven games in and faced with a big rebuilding job and you've come up with that view ! He's 63 years old, have a look at his track record and at least judge the bloke beyond seven games. Not too mention the nine injuries he's had since day one and the integration of seven new signings. Astonishing how some people view things.

It's madness.
One of the main reasons that Liverpool almost won the title last year (despite being a long way from the most talented team in the land) is because they didn't have to play many midweek games, and were therefore much fresher than the other top Premiership sides every weekend.
LVG has that advantage this year, and yet he seems perfectly content to give it away for a short term cash injection.

A quick trawl through the knockout rounds of the CL and EL gives an interesting collection of names worthy of consideration:
Rapid vienna, FC twente, Lyon, Real Sociedad, Gothenburg, Mainz, Brondby, plus there may be one or two other big names that did the same as Man U and missed out entirely...Valencia, Celta Vigo, Lazio, Udinese, Stuttgart, Milan, MArseille among others...
so a couple here and a couple of trips to the continent against the likes of the above would not be too taxing and would at generate some interest among the fanbase.....or maybe they should bring a B team to the Kassam instead?

Ok heres his record this millennium. 2014 took Holland to 3rd place in the WC,so as they finished runners up in 2010,took them backwards. 2011 sacked by Bayern Munich after finishing 4th in Bundesliga. 2010 won double with Bayern 2009 won Eredivisie 2008 zilch 2007 zilch 2006 zilch 2005 zilch 2004 zilch 2003 zilch, sacked by Barcelona with them in ELEVENTH place 3 points above relegation 2002 zilch 2001 zilch 2000 zilch So he won the Bundesliga with Bayern,Felix Magath won it twice,im sure Fulham fans will tell you that makes him twice the manager that LVG is. And the Dutch league,so that's 2 titles in 13 years,im sure the OT faithful will be happy with that return. But don't let facts get in the way of the legend that is LVG. P.S. Please can we not call him by his nickname, but call him his proper name,Aloysius.

Take, say, Terry Venables, what was it three trophies in a 35 year managerial record. I could reel off manager after manager after manager with far inferior records than van Gaal in that same time frame. You choose to not say that he won the Dutch league with a team comparable to Southampton or Swansea here. Got to a CL final with Bayern by playing some great football but lost out to a Mourinho car park full of buses in the final. Top manager who is doing a great job in bringing the swagger back to Man U.

He isn't conventional, we all know that. Clough wasn't either. His reign will be topsy turvy and he has to restore arrogance, swagger and results. Not easy but it's obvious he will do it his way and will not be swayed by convention. He's only been here ten weeks and in that time has brought two world class, galactic type players in, totally turned around the coaching staff, rebuilt the training pitches and shifted eleven players out. Enjoy the ride.

Not sure why this has turned into the merits of the manager, but I would feel the same were it any of the other premier league money grabbing swill that infests our game. I am sick of this crap spouted about the number of games, the fatigue, the pressures bought on the clubs, yet then they turn around and say lets go abroad and play some meaningless friendly. Tell you what, why not treat the domestic cup competitions with a little more respect. If you had then you would still be in it and playing some games closer to home that your English fans can see.

Is this the swagger in being beaten 4-0 by the English version of Vitesse Gennep?

And the amount of money they will lose will dwarf whatever a midweek friendly against Udinese will bring in....... A well rested, fit and healthy squad in the New Year would give them a big advantage over their competitors. LVG can surely see the big picture (and, to be fair to him, he has told his bosses to not even think about it for 3 months......)

Trying to side-step the sniping, Baldy what is your gut instinct on this? For it or would you rather they stayed at home and concentrated on the league?
Surely the only real money to be made from friendlies is in the states or far east, too far away for a jaunt mid-week. Unless they are thinking Celtic in Dublin?

His track record. Can someone buy you a Rothmans football yearbook for your birthday Baldy, or at least check your facts before you start typing. Since 2000 LVG - 2 domestic league titles and 1 domestic cup Wenger - 2 domestic league titles and 4 domestic cups How is that "far worse"?

According to the UEFA Coefficient Alkmaar are the 39th best club in Europe and 3rd in the Netherlands, behind Ajax (25th) and PSV (29th). Feyenoord are 122nd. With van Gaal's title people seem to forget that in the three seasons prior to his arrival they had finished 3rd, 2nd and 3rd again. Where did they finish in his first season? 11th.

When Man U were successful you said winning was all that mattered, now you come on here with a constant hand pump for LVG who is bringing the swagger back. Didnt see much swagger at Milton Keynes. Basically he has won the dutch league and the German league with a team that wins it every year (apart from the year he was sacked). He left Bayern and they went on to win the treble, after being booted out of Barca they went on to dominate Spain and Europe for years. Hopefully for your sake a similar pattern will emerge at Man U.
