Never heard of this Mojo chap. Two weeks left until the transfer windows shuts, and Man Utd are back to the usual panic buying. Deja vu anyone? LVG said he'll asses the squad ( don't forget he's 2-3 weeks behind the rest due to World Cup ) seems like he's made his mind up and is not recruiting players where he sees fit. Good management. It was evidently clear to most that the squad Man Utd finished last season with wasn't hood enough to challenge this season. It should not take 5-6 weeks to realise that Anderson, Cleverly etc are not good enough. Or to see that Evans, Jones, Smalling or the youth are a strong enough defence for the season. Or that Fellaini, Young, Valencia, Nani etc may be offloaded in order to recruit better players? Or that Wellbeck and Hernadez are only squad players and a recognisable striker is needed to support Rooney and van Persie? I'm not saying Man Utd are regulation material and think that they'll be around the 7th-4th places but let's not make excuses about the shambles of a transfer process over the last 15 months. Big names have not arrived and those that have arrived come with a massive price tag. 3 or 4 big names and this first defeat is irrelevant. Without them it is going to be another year of struggle and this could lead to a long slippery slope. LvG has the potential to turn things around but if he fails then who do they turn to next?

That Berbatov and Van Persie really were panic signings. Both helped win the league for them. Something arsenal fans won't remember.. In fact, RVP was signed almost to the day 2 years ago. m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/19296077Still, panic signings... If you were referring to last season. You've a small point. But seeing as that was done by Moyes, it explains it. LVG said he'll asses the squad ( don't forget he's 2-3 weeks behind the rest due to World Cup ) seems like he's made his mind up and is not recruiting players where he sees fit. Good management. Berbaflop ha ha,good one, what was it 28 mill, went on to better things,Fulham wasn't it? As for Rip Van sick note, only plays when his team Is winning,so he went missing last season and will do so again this. P.S.Nothing on the Beeb about this signing,Baldy hasn't pulled this off the Red cafe site again has he ? 'Berbaflop' eh. 108 games - 48 goals. 23 assists during that time as well. Champions medal twice in 4 years (runner up the other two) League cup winner. Some flop that is.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the World Cup ended towards the end of June. van Gaal has had the whole of July and half of August to bring in new talent. That's plenty of time.

Appleton took over Oxford on the 4th of July and is still trying to get players In to suit the style he wants to play. It takes time to move on and get in new talent.

Marcos Rojo is a good signing for Man U (assuming Nani doesn't blow it - apparently him heading to Sporting on loan is the final part of the deal).
Vidal + Another Experienced CB before September and they'll have a chance to be competitive. They're still nowhere near Man City or Chelsea otherwise.

Okay, so he's had a month. That's still plenty of time. Yes and he said he wouldn't be doing anything for four weeks while he assessed his squad. Surprise, surprise the four weeks is about up now and what are they on the verge of ? Sealing the deal for Rojo. Precisely the time frame LVG predicted. What is it that you don't get because, to me, it sounds like it's panning out exactly as LVG said it would.

LvG was touted by you as being beyond world class yet he needed 4 weeks to realise a defence without Ferdinand and Vidic was weak? He might go on record as saying 4 weeks in order to take pressure off from imnediate changes but surely this was one area screaming out for improvement? Taking 4 weeks is fine in June but he has 13 days to get the players in that Man Utd need to compete. Rojo is a start but nowhere near enough if they are going to make the top 4. LvG may have talked about winning the league but Baldy must accept that they are just too far away to challenge Arsenal let alone Chelsea and Man City.

Di Maria and Vidal could well follow. I'd love to see the reaction on here if those two come. If Vidal signs then thats exactly the sort of player they need. Would be a fantastic signing and Man Utd would be in with a chance of top 4. Di Maria, while a very good player I don't think is what they need at all. Can't see how he fits into the system either you wouldn't play him as a wing back. Plus the figures being talked about are way over the odds. He's worth 30-40, but if they pay 50 odd then it would suggest to me desperation to sign a big name rather than a good piece of business. So there is my reaction - one would be fantastic, one would be a panic buy in my view.

Di Maria could potentially play one of the wingback roles but at centre midfield he would be excellent, puts a great shift in and can get forward well. I agree 50 million is too much though.

Vidal would play in the middle obviously, where they are weak. I'm not convinced Di Maria is either a wingback or a central midfielder. He might be able to do a job there, but it would be odd to spend £50m on a player and play him out of position.
But I suspect they won't get either of them. Vidal would be looking for a step up from Juventus and a team very obviously on the decline hardly fits the bill and Di Maria, while Real are obviously keen to cash in, doesn't want to leave.

He's reasonably good, but he's certainly not world-class by any stretch of the imagination - not in the same league as Hazard or Sanchez. £20-25million is about the going rate for a player of this calibre. £30-40million is a bit steep, but if Man Utd as reports suggest are thinking of paying out £50million, then that absolutely reeks of desperation.

Or they are not convinced of his long term fitness due to his bad knee injury. Was rushed back for the World Cup for Chile and has hardly kicked a ball in preseason.
Anyhow, it surprises me how many people on this forum concern themselves with Manchester Utd's transfer business.. Would have thought they'd have got stuck into the numerous other topics on the forum..
