.... is an Asian player in our squad.
Think of the interest in our club it would generate over there. Shirt sales would go through the roof and we could have a pre-season tour over there.
Could we attract a top Thai or Vietnamese player to come sign for us?
Thoughts?

Yes, I agree. But good Asian players from the lesser nations are quite well paid. Even players here in Singapore are paid probably 2,000 to 3,000 a week and taxes are less.

HKyellow, from my time living in Singapore, I don't think top S League players would really be on that much (maybe earlier on, but lately they've had pathetic attendances) - you often see them moving to the bigger SEA countries like Indonesia or Malaysia for a bigger payday. Of the current squad, I'd gladly have Safuwan Baharuddin (ball-playing centre-back), or Kairul Amri or Shahril Ishak (attack-minded playmakers) in our squad. There's a youngster called Adam Swandi in the academy of FC Metz in France who would be well worth a look if he fails to force his way into the first team. If you really wanted to get some goodwill, Irfan Fandi would be a good choice, son of all-time local balling hero Fandi Ahmad. Think he's on a training contract with a Chilean club now though. Edit: Just looked it up, seems like S-League clubs have a monthly salary cap of S$85,000, so really, the average salary is S$4,250 - just over £2,000. Even looking at the star players earning above this average, the estimates say S$6,000-8000, or between £2,850-£3,800. www.sleague.com/news-features/news/2012/november/ceo-lim-hints-at-need-for-realismtheindependent.sg/blog/2013/11/11/why-chinese-singaporeans-shun-football/

What we need, "is a great big melting pot,big enough to take the world and all its got" I think we should sign an Israeli player,if the opposition score we bomb the shit out of them.

What we need is to sign good players - irrespective of color, country of origin or sexual orientation.
I'd take Fred Swindon from Swindon Road, Swindon if he could get 20 goals a season!

We simply need the best players possible, regardless of race/ethnic origin. There should be no positive or negative discrimination whatsoever. The last thing I would want to see is us to sign a player with the intention of appealing to a specific part of the community or world. Leave that to Premier League clubs.
Would you be happy signing player X on the basis he appeals to a specific section of the community rather than player Y who is deemed to be better? I would absolutely favour signing the better player myself, and if he is black or Asian (insert any other nationality or culture) then great but that should not be a deciding factor. Yes it would be great to have a squad that represented the mix of nationalities and cultures in Oxford, however I'd rather have the best squad possible without discriminating either way.

This is an interesting idea, but I'm not convinced that simply by having a player from Asia we'd get the sort of spin-off benefits suggested. The times I've been to Singapore all I've really noticed are shirts from the main premiersh1t teams - Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelski, which is probably down to the fact that their games get shown over there all the time. So, unless Skye start showing our games on a regular basis, even if we have a TEAM of Asians I don't think we'd benefit.

Maybe a tie up with a few Asian clubs, they send their players here and we send some of ours there?
