I reckon they will manage 3 games minimum.
Either storm the group get our hopes up then cock it up.
Or
Scrape through the group win 1 more game then go out on pens

One win, one draw, one loss and elimination.
Gerrard and Lampard then announces their retirements from international football.

I think if England reach the quarter finals it will be a massive achievement. Its do able, and with a second round game against a team from Colombia's group, it looks on paper a good opportunity to get to the quarters. Except game aren't written on paper, and getting out of the group will be tough. So one step at a time, not such high expectations this time around.

3rd on goal difference. Italy will top the group with 9 points, Uruguay will edge us by virtue of the fact they will thrash Costa Rica, whereas we'll scrape a 1-0 victory from a dubious penalty decision.

Agreed. If it's the usual England which always disappoints, we will lose to Uruguay and Italy.

Agreed. If it's the usual England which always disappoints, we will lose to Uruguay and Italy. Despite the fact only Brazil and Germany have beaten England in 90 mins since 1998? We may disappoint but we rarely lose.

I am slightly more optimistic and so will go for quarter finals.
Draw against Italy (probably a boring 0-0) beat Costa Rica and go through on goal difference.
I think that Stirling, Sturridge, Lallana could actually be peaking at the right time for this World Cup.

I'm almost certain that we'll beat Costa Rica and draw against Italy. So for me it all depends on how we do versus Uruguay. Probably a draw, but will 5 points be enough to see us out of the group? Should be...
Can't see us getting less than 4 points or more than 7.

If we can get out of the group I think we'll do alright, but I have a nasty feeling we'll get turned over by Italy and Uruguay. But if we can somehow come through that I think we should reach the QFs.

We'll beat Italy convincingly, struggle to a draw against Costa Rica then win a bruising physical battle with Uruguay- at a cost. 2/3 injured key players.

If you could win a WC for pre tournament spin, confidence and supposed camaraderie then we'd have eclipsed the achievements of 1966 ten times over.
You listen to Gerrard yesterday and you get the feeling that some punters will fall for all that nonsense. It's a happy camp, we are all focused and confident.......blah, blah, blah, heard it all before and the hope drops like a stone when you see Gerrard's creaking body chasing shadows as the opposition ping it around us.
Won't get out of the group in my opinion.

I think we will get to the 2nd stage at least. Good thing this time is that England haven't been overhyped in the press , maybe that will take a bit of pressure off the team, also its a young squad that may possibly play the type of football that will see us progress in the competition, and into the future.
I shall watch the last warm up game tonight with interest.

Italy and. England to qualify from group, order depends on goal difference but it's good that we play Costa Rica last. I don't think climate is as big a problem as in the past and think Hodgson and the FA choose the prep games well for once.
We have a relatively young and for once fit group going to the World Cup. We also have plenty of fire power from midfield which I think will be important. I think we needed a strong defensive midfielder but who is there?
Italy are impossible to judge because they don't do friendlies. They don't have the pace to unlock our defence sufficiently either but I also think neither team will want to lose and suspect a 0-0 bore.
Uruguay had to play New Zealand to qualify and anyone who thinks Louis Suarez can recover from knee surgery in three weeks deserves to have their head looked at. Our attack should be able to score at least two against a pretty mediocre defence (even New Zealand manage three over two games)
Costa Rica should be the groups goal difference machine and like I said the fixtures have been kind to us in this respect.
I would fancy any of group C other than Columbia but then I think our defensive weakness against pace will come back to haunt us come the quarter finals.

A good poll and one that so far hasn't resulted in an argument - unbelievable scenes!
Im going for the quarters (at worst), this time there is little expectation, yes we lack a bit of experience but instead we have in form players, youth, pace and hopefully a team that will and play without fear. We could get found out but maybe this time we will dare i say it, over achieve? - imagine that, its about time!

It will be tough to get through, but there is no reason why we shouldn't if we play as well as we can.
Italy are an aging side that haven't won for 7 games. We have to stop Pirlo dictating like he did in the Euros. They are a very good tournament side though (could be a drab 0-0)
Uruguay are excellent upfront, but their defence isn't much? Is Suaraez the key (it is still possible that he won't be fit and certainly will not have played any games for some time).
I reckon we will squeeze through and then could well win the first knock out game. I can't see us beating Brazil or Spain though in the QF's.

That the team is riddled with underperforming/overpaid /past it/too young/inexperienced/ineffective/over rated players who have no team spirit, the squad being riddled with cliques and diviseness and that no-one gives a flying one?

Convinced we will get out the group then the second round game should be fine on paper.
The quarters will be very difficult unless there is a shock in the other groups. See no reason why this can't be a relatively successful tournament. Reasonably solid defence (Johnson the only risk), Gerrard and Henderson solid in the middle, then hopefully a front 4 who play without fear. Rooney could be the weakest link not because of any Man Utd agenda but just that he has baggage. Sterling, Sturridge, Lalana and the Ox all in form and should be let loose.
