On Monday 14th April a Tribunal hearing was held in regard to The Kassam Stadium's designation as an Asset of Community Value. The hearing considered a Notice of Appeal submitted by Firoka following Oxford City Council's internal review of the listing in August last year which upheld their original decision.
OxVox were invited to attend the Tribunal hearing, the final right of appeal Firoka had under the legislation for Assets of Community Value. Today we have been informed that the Tribunal have rejected Firoka's Notice of Appeal.
We are delighted that the Council's judgement has been upheld. We continue to believe that The Kassam Stadium plays a vital role in the future of Oxford United, that it is important that the community's interest in this matter should be recognised in this way, and that the decision has implications for other football clubs and their supporters too.

Good news, perhaps he will start to wonder if it is worth hanging on to now.

Excellent news for OUFC and well done OxVox.
It's also pleasing that those who were convinced that Firoka's legal team would succeed and OxVox's committee would be committed to the poor house after paying legal costs have been proved utterly wrong. Shows that even some of this country's leading intellectuals and most experienced business brains can occasionally back the wrong horse.

Is it just me that thinks the more things like this p*ss kassam off the higher the price and less likely we r to get the stadium. I think it's good that he can't shaft us and sell behind our backs, but when he holds all the cards he will just say fine pay ur rent and I won't sell or the price is now 16m

If the price is too high, he won't be able to sell it. Like IL, Kassam is a canny business man. If he decides he wants rid of it, he knows he'll have to pitch the price at a reasonable level.

I agree. Kassam knows he will do financially well whatever he does. But IL is no fool, probably biding his time and gathering resources ready for a bid which hopefully will remove the curse of Kassam

Is it just me that thinks the more things like this p*ss kassam off the higher the price and less likely we r to get the stadium. Before the stadium was listed, Kassam could sell to anyone for any purpose at any time. Now, the listing itself doesn't change much in that equation, but it is an additional complication for a prospective purchaser to factor in. If you think of the Kassam as an antique vase, it had a premium price. The ACV is a chip; the vase is no longer perfect, it is not as attractive to buyers as it once was; it is devalued - why else would FK put time and money into trying to get it removed.

Who the hell other than us would buy the kassam and don't say london welsh because they will never succeed in oxford ! As you'll be aware, land is expensive in Oxford. If Kassam could sell the ground and surrounding car parks to a property developer at the right price, he would. And that's definitely within the realms of possibility. Oxford CC has new build targets like any other local authority and would be amenable to giving the necessary permissions. It's support for the Right To Bid shows that it does regard the stadium as a community asset, but without this protection I'm sure they wouldn't stand in the way of development. The Right To Bid at least gives the fans' organisation an opportunity to raise funds for a purchase.

It may be chipped, but he may now say f*ck it I'm not selling my antique anymore because of this so u will pay heavily to look at it for the next 12 years

I would doubt if he would let personal antagonism to get in the way of making a few £. So I would be very surprised if he wouldn't get rid of the stadium at what he considers to be a reasonable commercial price.
If anything this RTB may marginally reduce the price as it will make it just that more difficult to sell.

On the BBC report it says the ACV listing only lasts for 5 years. Can another application be made after the 5 years have elapsed to re-list the stadium as a ACV and are OxVox allowed to make that application?

Good news that this is retained. Still think Ovxox good work is wasted (not their fault) as I think Lenagan will never be in a position to purchase the ground.

Good news that this is retained. Still think Ovxox good work is wasted (not their fault) as I think Lenagan will never be in a position to purchase the ground. The Right To Bid exists to allow OxVox six months to raise purchase funds, should Kassam decide to sell. The funds don't have to come from Ian Lenagan. They could come from another wealthy person with an interest in OUFC, or a consortium, or from Mark Sennett's overdraft.
