Sorry, but cannot get my head around the road Lenagan is plotting at the moment. Have just come in after rather good 'Mothers Day Dinner' not me believe it or not but the kids like to drink me stupid. . His target for Wilder was at least the play-offs. He was quite happy for Wilder to leave (I was never a Wilder supporter....but we were up there) ...he leaves Lewis in charge for far too long and is happy to see our promotion chances slip away. and seems quite happy for''the promotion charge'' to be put off till next season. We all know the squad is lacking, but at least six weeks ago we had a chance. He could have quite easily appointed a temp manager...till he ''found the right man'' to take us forward. Barnet have taken Martin Allen for three months...he could have kept us up there while the Chairman searched out his ''ideal'' candidate to take us up near the championship , but no, he seems more than happy to let the new man in when the team has lost confidence and slipping away from contention... wait re-build in the summer and try again (starting level with the other teams rather than twenty one places in front of the competition ).Sorry, but I just do not get his plan, can someone please explain?.

Very good question. Why not ask it of the man himself via Mary Page <mpage@oufc.co.uk> ? It does all seem rather a mess.

Maybe that's a question for OxVox

All good points ox18. The only explanation that I can find that fits is that IL is operating Oxford on a very limited budget and is simply not willing to spend any more money on the club than is absolutely necessary. He anyone else got a theory that fits?

Sorry, but I just do not get his plan, can someone please explain?. with some spaces to try and read through that rambling overlong sentence of ...s 1 - promotion was the target. 2 - I think if Wilder had us solidly in clear promotion places and form, then he may well have stayed. 3A - agreed. 3B - not sure what IL is supposed to have done and why he would be happy to see us dropping places. 4 - what else should he be doing? 5 - the squad was good enough i reckon, particularly with Whing, Potter returning. Some say that it was Wilder and his tactics holding the squad back, rather than the players. 6 - agreed 7 - so? 8 - assuming Waddock is the right man, what's wrong with him being here now rather than June? If he's not the right man, who would have been? 9 - I don't think we can write off this season just yet. a bad loss against Southend and a freak late goal against Dagenham is not the end of the world. I think all that could be justifiably said is 10 - why weren't we a bit more prepared for Wilder to leave? 11 - was it reasonable to expect an awful drop in form? 12 - why no use of the 12th Man money for an emergency loan to the end of the season?

it would be hard to convince a manager to come in just for a couple of months to hold the fort whilst searching for this "right" man, who really would do this? if the rumours are right that the real "right" man was found but we wouldn't pay the compo then who or why target him in the first place knowing that you'll have to pay---where is the money received from wilders exit?.
Then you have the extra costs of League one without guarantees of increased attendance as the gates were already dipping, whether appointing someone earlier to keep the push for promotion on track would have stabalised the gate or increased it we shall never know but as a fan i would have preferred we made the effort rather than what we have witnessed since.
What about players contracts? we don't know who made the decision to put them on hold but our previous owner tried that one and that saw us drop from Top to missing out and the then manager being offered to other clubs..Would it be correct to negotiate new contracts with the players whilst not being prepared too do so with Chris Wilder?
It seemed obvious to many that wilder was going to go at the first offer from elsewhere but not the IL it would appear or why no plan in place? Did he really believe that ML and AM were capable of keeping us on track or was it as the rumour has it that he got caught out by not being either aware or prepared to pay compo for this "right" man.
What it does mean however is that us fans will once again be asked to believe that this time they really do mean business and to get behind the new head coach next season, the problem is after creating such a mess and alienating the fans just how many will be prepared to listen, believe and shell out once again and will there be enough to maintain a proper squad capable of gaining promotion.

After the farce of last season myself and the boys I go with seriously considered not renewing. One took a lot of persuading but I won him round in the end and we all purchased our tickets. At this moment it is going to take one hell of a turn around for us all to renew. Fans don't like being hoodwinked and fed a lot of PR nonsense. They want ambition, entertaining football and decisive action on important matters. I really feel that we have had none of those and the result will be fans thinking twice with many turning away. Which in turn further damages the club. When Wilder was interviewed when he got his new job he said the chairman was 'a football man.' I wonder if that was a dig? When the renewal letters arrive this time around, I wonder what the rhetoric will be like!

Absolutely spot on. As it currently stands there will be a fair few that I know of not renewing unless a VERY good deal is offered. Having sat and watched another season of great potential become the "usual" cart with no wheels IL will need to put plenty of jam on the breadcrumbs he offers us. If the corporate face of the Club just think "screw them, they can take it or leave it", as they did with a certain FA cup game, then they could be in for a nasty suprise as people become increasingly less likely to blindly renew if their abition isn`t reflected by the club.

It's quite simple - no fans, no club. I'm not 100% convinced Ian Lenagan, or at least some of his support team, appreciate this. Ian Lenagan should be bending over backwards to please as many fans as possible, be they returnees or not. He will never please everyone, but his master plan for OUFC must be fans-centric. Whatever you think of Pete Winkelman at MK Dons, he certainly does appreciate this. He is most definitely running that club as a means to an end for his other enterprises, but getting people into the stadium is his core football-related objective.

Should it not be a case of treat every single supporter like they are part of the club rather than continue to make pr gaffs by having a take it or leave it attitude as was told to my family on the phone? That way you wont have to worry about them returning as they will already be there as they're made to feel welcome.
The good things are rarely spoken about but the negative things soon spread causing more harm.

It's just one of those things. A chance you take. People don't want to witness boring one paced football and yet another capitulation. I sincerely hope GW can turn it around very quickly, give us some good football with goals and keeps us in the play offs with the outside chance of going up. If he doesn't, I won't blame him as he won't have had much of a chance or time. But at the same time IL can't just blindly keep taking the fans for granted, it's as simple as that. I won't hesitate to renew if we make the play offs and I'm satisfied that his ambitions match mine for the future. But I don't want a load of PR spiel anymore, it won't wash!

The biggest wonderment is the 'neglect' of the £15000 available at no cost to the club. He probably won't need it next season but it should be 'gambled' now on a player if only to stop fans believing there is no ambition.

very goods points. If Minimum WAS paly-offs what has changed, surely these should be the same targets.
Also...So Waddock manages to get us to the playoffs, we struggle and get to the final, and by a fluke we win 3 nil again!..Is Waddock the right man for Div1? I think (now this may of been a conspiracy thing going on here), Wlider may of got us automatic promotion which may of got IL running scared (ooh ive got to pay bonuses and a new contract). and possibly new contracts to most of the 13 who are out of contract....Lets see who blinks first...and luckily for IL it was Wilder...Thank you very much. less wages are need for a new manager.
AS I KEEP REPEATING...WAS WADDOCK REALLY THE BEST CANDITATE OUT OF 71 OTHERS, IS HE JUST A YES MAN!!

To be blunt we can only go on what we have been told - how do we know it was true ? For all we know. Waddock was the cheapest available at short notice once IL realized he had to do something. Let's be blunt - we have been royally mugged off by IL in the last few months whether you want to believe the unpalatable or not. At the very best he has shown a total lack of ambition - at worst .... well you do the maths.

This is soooo right, a no cost option....another player, he may or may not have helped any final push, whenever this starts, if it worked great, if not IL hasnt lost anything, but at least it shows there was an attempt--- or have OUFC given up for the season -
