The newly-founded Yellow Army will be kicking off Oxford United’s season with a bang at Portsmouth on Saturday.
Along with an array of new banners and flags, the 2,500 travelling fans will also be given the chance to contribute to the effort to buy Us legend Dave Langan’s 2nd division and Milk Cup winners medals, with Yellow Army volunteers collecting outside Fratton Park.
Says OxVox chairman Mark Sennett, who is organising the fund-raising: “A month ago, we announced that we were going to try to raise £5,000 to buy Langy’s medals, to help him buy a mobile home. We already have £3,000 in the pot, and our aim is to reach our £5,000 target on Saturday. If each adult fan contributes £1 each, then we’ll make it easily. Once we’ve bought the medals, they will be put on display at our stadium, where everyone can see them and remember the great things that Dave Langan did for our club.”
One of the Yellow Army’s aims is to ensure that, whether home or away, the team run out at the start of the game to see a sea of yellow.
Co-ordinating that effort is Joe Nicholls, who says: "We all realise just what a big day Saturday is. There will be a sell out crowd, and Portsmouth is a great place to start the season. But this is about Oxford United, and we in the Yellow Army want to give the best possible support to the players, and show the true Yellow Army spirit. It would give a real boost to the players if the away end is a sea of yellow, and for it to be loud and proud. Fans can wear yellow, bring ticker tape, balloons and flags, to give the players a truly special welcome. The Ultras are planning a display, and we are working on bringing flags and banners, to add colour to the away end"
Lets start the season with a bang, and show just what the Yellow Army can do when we unite as one, to support the mighty Oxford United.
YELLOW ARMY

Can't wait for this! Got a 100 balloons and 4 streamers ready. Also gonna take the 1986 flag which was at Wembley 27 years ago! It's faded to yellow and purple now, which I suppose is quite suitable for our new away kit Will also try and rip up loads of yellow pages too on Friday, hopefully everyone else does the same! Going to be an electric atmosphere! Also hope everyone heads down to the Good Companion pub for a few drinks and a sing song!

I spoke to Portsmouth football club today. There will be spare seats either side of our 2,500 allocation because of the safety issues. We will be able to use these spare seats to put flags on. So take your flags to Pompey, and put them on show.

I will be ripping up a good portion of the yellow pages on Friday night to ensure the lads get a good motivational welcome to the start of the season. Bring on the noise! I think we can all make this a spectacle that will not be easily forgotten

Pompey are going to be loud and up for it after their eventful summer and there'll be loads of coverage for the match because of their situation. Let's steal their thunder and make it all about OUFC!

I'll be taking my 10ft flag, think its only been to 1 match in the 5+ years I've had it. And told a lad whose in same car to take his. Unfortunately, no spare yellow pages here. Really looking forward to the 'display' but it shouldn't just be for this away game. It should be for most away games like it was in 09 and 10.

According to Pompey fans "we're up there" in terms of noise.

So pleased the mighty portsmouth approved!
Thought they were decidedly average considering the crowd. Basically a cow bell a drum and a few others.
Can't believe how deluded some of their fans are having read some social media comments in the build up to the match.
Still, them at home should be fun.
