why are people blaming the ref? Added time is a MINIMUM. Plus their player was down for a good few minutes. Also is there a rule saying that you should wait for all the players to be in postion before you blow the whistle?
oufc should have had a penalty (maybe two).

I remember we had a similar sort of game back in our second (?) season in the Conference against Exeter. The fourth official said four minutes and Richard Logan scored for them in the fifth minute of added time. Fans on TiU were naturally annoyed about the added time, but you've just got to play to the whistle. If one minute is shown, you keep on playing and trying until that whistle blows regardless of how long after one minute is shown. That said, I wasn't there today so I can't comment on the penalty decisions. It sounds like we might have been unlucky, but I can't help but think that the ultimate aim of promotion is now a laughable prospect. This season is finished.

Well what a strange game. We scored from a corner that was never a corner. Beano missed a sitter. We should have had at least one dead cert penalty. The guy that took JPP out on the touchline should have been sent off, the guy who comitted the professional foul (on Potter?) should have been sent off. So the ref had a shocker - but at end of the day, we lost control of the central midfield, Leven our expensive, experienced, unfit midfielder was chasing shadows (once it appeared he couldn't be bothered to chase back so he just fell on his arse).

Was it the players, Wilder (felt he was braver than normal with his subs), the ref or lady luck. I'm really puzzled and p*ssed off. Really.

All these excuses about time added. Does Mr Wilder realise that during this time, it is also allowed for us to go and score; but we do not of course and they do!
I am beginning to feel sorry for Mr Wilder because obviously he has not got the ability at this level and it must be hell for him too. We should not be surprised at at this sorry mess.
He must go now before he makes it worse, and take your two side-kicks with you too please Mr Wilder.
A new Trio should be appointed soonest. People who know what they are doing.
The whole club needs a lift if we are not to lose more paying fans.

Can't believe people are using the match thread to main about Wilder! If Mekong knew his beloved Chris was being criticised like this he'd be most unimpressed.

All meant in good spirit Malc, I didn't go so can't pass fair comment on todays game but I think the cracks are there for all to see. You can't paper over the fact that something isn't right, yes the players must carry their fair share but the man who steers the ship is ultimately responsible. I've backed wilder all th way but I felt he was lucky to hold on over the summer and the boards loyalty this season whilst admirable is now bordering on laughable. Not being funny but if Wycombe and barnet have replaced with the budgets they work too then surely we are falling short, especially as the mandate that the club set out was promotion.

Well hopefully more than the defensive coach! Very clever. But what does an Attacking Coach do? I don't think it's a hard question to ask is it? What does a goalkeeping coach do ?

We cant keep on blaming the ref. We had the game under control in the first 25 odd minutes and really should have gone in at half time at least 2 in front, and we would have done if Beano had scored that sitter. We lost control of midfield (again) after that and never regained control. CW tried to change things but it didn't work.

What does a goalkeeping coach do ? Since Brown is 'coaching' Clarke, and having seen his goalkeeping in the couple of matches he's played for us, absolutely nothing at all I very much hope!

Very clever. But what does an Attacking Coach do? I don't think it's a hard question to ask is it? What does a goalkeeping coach do ? Goalkeeping is a specialist position that requires players to use both their hands and feet. Unlike the outfield players, Goalkeepers need to be able to move well laterally and be able to get up and down. The use of the hands means the position is apart from the outfield players. Goalkeepers don't work on phases of play. What does an attacking coach do then? No one can answer this bloody question. Or do we need a Forwards coach? Is that what people mean? Can I also ask for an attacking full back coach? I also want a specialist left foot coach as Lewis, Wilder and Melville are right footed and thus the left footers in the team are under represented. What about a throw in coach as well?

An attacking / forward coach would help with finishing.
He would help with attacking movement. If we are playing a 2 up front he would teach them to work together, to make runs off each other, to support each other. He could help beano with the timings of his runs to beat the offside trap. Could also help with attacking set plays.
He could also tell the midfield players when he wants the ball released and where to play it.
All of our present coaches and manager were all defensively minded.

Unlike the outfield players, Goalkeepers need to be able to move well laterally and be able to get up and down. You must be Peter Leven's personal coach. A forwards coach (aka attacking coach) would, among other things coach the strikers to run into spaces and the midfielders to look for those spaces, the strikers to play off one another (or at least stand less than 20 yards from each other for gks, and to anticipate where the ball might be cleared to from a corner or free kick. I'd suggest a technical coach might not be wasted either, might even start a thread for that one.

Surly all outfield players should be looking to run into spaces when the team is in possession whilst being aware of each others movements? Don't see why this should be constricted to the forwards. I think people are confusing a fowards/attacking coach with an offensive play coach? Or is it specifically finishing which needs specialist coaching? Or how about more effective scouting to ensure we recruit players who already possess the key attributes required?

All of our present coaches and manager were all defensively minded. That's the issue, I feel. It's not that we need an 'attacking/forwards coach', it's that we need a coach who used to be a forward. Having three such defensively minded heads running this side means we have no creative ideas in the final third. How often do we see headed goals from crosses whipped in from wide? Hardly ever. An attacker would be able to tell the wide men how to get to the by-line and how the strikers can time their runs to attack the ball and win any second balls that appear. We have Chrissy Allen as part of the youth set up and it would be good to see him promoted to the main team as a temporary option. He appears to be doing the business as youth team manager so it would be an easy appointment to make.
