Mitchell Cole has left Stevenage FC to sign for Oxford on a free transfer. Cole was signed by former manager Mark Stimson in January 2007. He scored 20 league goals in his three and a half years at Broadhall Way. Cole told the Oxford Mail: "I was offered a new deal by them [Stevenage], obviously I considered it, having been there for so long. But having done what I did last season, then sitting in the stands for the FA Trophy final, I took the decision to move on." www.stevenage.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=201741

Today at 7:54pm, Cardiff Yellow wrote: incidently when did he last play in the reserves? Very mysterious that we haven't heard anything. It must be pretty serious if it's being kept withing the club www.oufc.co.uk/page/ReservesDetail/0,,10342~2198957,00.html played v Luton on 27th October. The reserves have only played one game since and the game v Thame. But he didn't feature in either.

I think the last 3 paragraphs say it all....
However, those moments of brilliance were rare. Often the Mitchell Cole we would see on a Saturday afternoon was a lazy one, who wouldn’t pull his weight and not get involved in the game enough. He was also seen swearing at supporters after being criticised for not putting in enough effort. The frustrating thing with Cole was that when he was bothered, he was simply one of the best players in the division. When he wasn’t though, it was like having to play with 10 men.
During his time with Boro, Cole became increasingly injury prone and seemed to constantly lack enough fitness to complete 90 minutes. This was frustrating for both the club and the player as he couldn’t seem to be able to deliver what everyone knows he could do if he applied himself.
In the end, Stevenage have had enough of Cole and he has been allowed to leave for Oxford on a free transfer with a year still left to run on his contract. It’s a shame because he could have been a real talent for us, but seemingly doesn’t have the desire to want to be a success. Oxford have a real challenge on their hands if they plan on having Cole as a regular part of their side.
Maybe if Mr Wilder read that bit he wouldn't have made this mistake, seems like that summary is bang on the money.....

If true that is very sad news and it's a shame he will never get a chance to prove himself here. Hopefully the club will announce something soon

I said at the time that we signed the wrong player. We should have gone for Drury.

I just wish the club would just come out and explain what is wrong with Mitchell. All this uncertainty just creates needless speculation and wild rumours.

If thats the case...then as long as Wilder learns from his mistakes i can live with it...but the silence from the club is a bit of a cause for concern, hopefully we can get more information in the future. not being a part of the 1st team is one thing but to not have played for the reserves since october, this shows there is something deep going on.
