I am the real Brownlie, but how do I prove it? Where did you buy your food pre-match when we visited Southend in the 2010-2011 season?

I said this after the Bristol Rovers match, we are going to be very difficult to beat this year, and again our defence looked very solid. We cannot get too carried away though, yes its a good start, but its not a sprint its a marathon.
When the fixtures were released, i started to think god thats a hard start, but so far so good, and we need to back these two excellent results up with a win against a Plymouth team that are not great imo.

Well, that was superb. My first game this season and we were dominant. Southend won't have a more torrid night. There were many aspects of our performance that I was impressed with. Here are a few. 1. Our strength. We looked more robust than last season. Chappers and Potter in particular seemed to have been supping the protein shakes in pre season! + Cox is our L2 Danny Bulman. 12th man.... 2. Our use of the pitch space. We didn't always do the obvious. We played quick, short and narrow football last night and then Bang, out wide to the fullback. It made it very hard for Southend to keep organised. Impressed. 3. Changing the tempo. As above we were alot more unpredictable, and what I really liked is that we probed and probed, and if an opening did not present itself the team's default setting was to slow it down, keep the ball and start again instead of hoofing it. Big thumbs up from me. 4. Forster - Caskey. He is the man. He gets about the pitch and gives us that much needed mobiliity that we were missing last season. A quality player, it only takes a few minutes to realise that. Will player much higher than L2. 5. When we pressed the ball we did it as a team. As a result we often won possession higher up the pitch which is essential. After that performance we should all be pleased. The team have showed each other the standard....now lets keep it going.

Only one mild criticism. Is it really necessary to take 10 to 12 passes to reach the half way line?
Otherwise an excellent performance. Particularly against 10 men (usually our bugbear!!!)

Yes, when trying to stretch the play and keep the 10 men chasing the ball

I bought that food in.a kebab shop near the ground, my mate was with me, and we only just made it into the ground for kick off. Lost the game conceding two goals in a ten or fifteen minute spell when we were under the cosh.
Correct and proved?

It frustrates me that our fans get impatient when we are in possession. When we are in possession they can't score and we dictate the pace of the game. We have the players that can pick a killer pass it's all about getting the ball to these players in enough space to do this. I understand calls to push on as soon as they went down to ten men but us passing it around the back stopped the sending off galvernising their team as so often happens.

I don't understand why one of our centre backs didn't just carry the ball into space; drawing the man, and then playing the pass. it would have been a lot easier and more effective.

Also, a number of times our midfielders/defenders held on to the ball too long when easier options were available and actually got caught with the ball as last man, and on another day a decent team would have punished us for that, especially poor as the only had 10 men.

All I have to say from last night is a lot of our fans would hate to be Barcelona/Spain fans...

Can't believe people are still finding things to moan about after that performance At 2-0 up last night Damian Batt misplaced a pass. A bloke just along form me shouted "Bloody Hell Batt, you're a liability". Some of our fans have absolutely no idea what they're talking about...

I think why some supporters don't like seeing the repetitive passing across the back four that quite often that is when we actually give the other teams possession... when the inevitable (often) mis passed ball occurs. Better to give possession away in the opposition half rather than just outside our own box.

Plenty of patient passing of the ball across the back 4, then killer pass and goal.

When Potter did well, but lost the ball, one shouted "disgrace". I wasnt in a great mood last night, and that didn't help at all as I knew id lose it if I said something. And when we had decent possession, they moaned and moaned. I thought it was a decent performance and a great result. I was impressed with the new players (that includes Capaldi) and I thought Smalley looked better. It's a nice feeling to see us top of the league. It's far to early for it to mean anything, but it all helps with the feel good factor around the club at the moment.
