Assuming you don’t have tickets, which one of these options best somes you up?
A. You think it’s a great oppurtunity for Britain to shine and you can’t wait for it to start, and you’ll watch as much of it as you can. You are wearing Union Jack underwear as we speak and you say ‘Team GB’ twice in every sentance.
B. You’re quite looking forward to it and will pick and choose the events you want to watch as long as they don’t clash with Come dine with me or The hotel inspctor.
C. You don’t give a rat’s arse about any of it.
D. You think the whole thing stinks, it’s just a money making operation for the sponsors and that, and anyway the goverment are all getting back handers off the olympic committee or Seb Coe or something, and you have to eat what they say when you go in and you can’t wear Nikes
E. Think it’s alright but you pretend you think the above to look/hard/cynical/sussed., assuming you don’t have tickets, which one of these options best somes you up?

Much as I love football, the Olympics for me is bigger and better than the World Cup. Massive boost for the country and I am genuinely excited.
I am A all the way, but have not yet purchased any patriotic underwear and I find the term "Team GB" mildly irritating

I'm looking forward to it. I went to the cycling test event last year, the torch relay when it went past last Friday, and am off to a couple of events.
I hadn't read this before lunch, but was in town at lunchtime and went into Next and bought a reversible Union Jack bucket hats (decorated in a Jackson Pollock / Stone Roses -eque painted style).
Last time the people were talking about the competitors wanting to"medal", and this time on the radio the new verbified noun is them wanting to "podium", which may start to annoy me.
L&P should do a bingo tick list of cliches for us to tick off.

I'm looking forward to it. I've got tickets for the canoing and equestrian. It will be another Great British occasion, and I can't wait for it to start.

Anyone know why we have to be GB and can't be England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?

Cos they're not countries they are principalities of 1 country

England in not a principality, neither is Scotland.

Going by the book we should be GB in other sports as well. Its only because we have such a huge influence on the world of football that we're allowed to bend the rules. Other principalities/autonomous regions whatever they are have been refused - Catalonia for example

well I guess the same goes for those sports, its because of our influence historically
Although I don't think there are other comparable countries within a country

A/B for me, Generally positive although I wont be watching any of the stupid events that shouldn't be in the Olympics.
One of the pluses for me is the EHL coming to the UK after the Olympics. That's pretty huge and would never have happened if it wasn't for the Olympics (and they've said as much). Hopefully the British teams will do well.

B with a couple of D statements added.
I am not certain but is each individual nations identity in different sports to do with the presence of a separate association covering each sport. E.g. Do Catalonia have their own F.A. or are they part of the Spanish F.A.

We are England in Rugby, Cricket (technically England and Wales) and Hockey as well, not just Football... Hockey competes as both without issue (although I believe the only non-English player is a Welsh lady). I think traditionally we've had more naturalised Indians than Scots! ...also Rugby has the lions (Northern hemisphere rugby would die if the home nations were forced to come together so its in nobody's interest).

Its only because we have such a huge influence on the world of football that we're allowed to bend the rules. I believe its more historical than influential, ie England was the first FA (hence the reason its not called the EFA), and Scotland was probably the second. The world body didn't come along until quite a bit later so weren't really in a position to change things.
